Luke Berry appreciation
Just a few words on Luke Berry. The club is in a much better place than it was when he joined.
Berry and Nathan Jones were reunited after he was released by Luton in the summer of 2024 following the Hatter’s relegation from the Premier League.
He scored twice in the Premier League meaning Berry belongs to a rare club of players that have scored in each of the top 5 divisions, Berry chose the Addicks over Championship clubs and brought a professionalism and know how that clearly rubbed off on his team mates.
Our promotion last season was Luke’s 5th of his career, and he played 48 games in all comps, scored 8 important goals and had 5 assists.
Berry is the consummate professional, always played with a smile on his face, and even this past season when his opportunties were limited was already to play his part. He featured in 16 Championship games last season and scored our equaliser at Hull.
He got some important goals in our promotion season, my favourite was that cracker at Wycombe, and as the fans celebrated wildly he lay flat out on the floor injured. It is still a mystery how he injured himself from that, but it meant he missed the next two vital games. He was an unused sub at Wembley but more than played his part in our promotion.

I was at the Hull away game when Luke ‘chested’ the ball into the net, that was thing about Luke he seemed to be able to control the ball with any part of his body! I am sure he could do a job for Luton Town in their push for promotion next year or Cambridge.
They are the two I reckon as well. He is a Cambridge boy. Maybe Peterborough or Wycombe as well. Don’t expect he wants to move too far at his age.
