The Let Down Effect
I had been in the UK since last Monday. This week begins a crazy period of work travel. If anyone has a potion for preventing illness after extended trips, then please share.
I beleive they call it the ‘Let Down Effect,’ which after extended periods of stress or travel or both, elevated hormone levels drop quickly, resulting in a ‘crash’ of the immune system.
Without doubt my bloody hormone levels would still be pretty raised if the Addicks had won yesterday and put some of that end of season stress to bed!
I have been getting sick more and more after ‘I stop’ and it has been an annoyance. I did get to see my parents earlier in the week, and my son and his girlfriend after football Saturday, but otherwise it was a blast furnace of all day meetings and pitch presentations. The cycle of hotel, meeting room, restaurant, hotel room.
Long days and a lack of sleep but you get to eat well, but for as much of a foodie I am, I’m craving beans on toast tonight. Maybe a fried egg on top.
I leave on Tuesday for New York, which is my lonesome-other-half’s birthday, and then back to London next Friday night. I will be back at The Valley next Saturday. No let down effect, please Charlton.

Sorry CA – no tips except the obvious. When can you retire? Only advice is do it as soon as you can.
Did get a bit worried about my heart rate on friday – had a quick look at the league table and told myself to save the heart attack for when there really is a problem.

Like LP# said, maybe try to retire when you have still a good few years left to enjoy it. Very important! All the best, take care.
