Charlton’s women

I know a fair few of you pay close attention and watch Charlton Women’s team.

I follow their results enough to know that under Karen Hills they’ve hardly been showing scintillating form despite being sitting on top of the WSL 2 table, and despite going over a calendar year without defeat and being top of the table this entire season the Addicks have been wobbly for a while.

After not losing any of their first 16 league games they have hit the skids and promotion is not going to be the stroll it had looked for a long time. Anything but in fact.

Three defeats in the last four games ending with a 3-2 defeat today in a must not lose game to our arch nemesis Crystal Palace means that with two games left, the Women have played a game more than their rivals and still need 4 points to go up. 3-2 today did not tell the story of a very one-sided match.

This is the season to get promoted due to the expansion of the WSL. Two teams will get automatic promotion and 3rd place will play-off against the bottom WSL team. The gap between the two divisions looks ginoirmous and whether it is Leicester or West Ham who end bottom, that will provide a real challenge.

I’m interested to know from those that watch the Women if they think we have the legs to get over the line. Failing seemed an improbable realism a few months ago, but it would be ‘oh so Charlton.’

For some unknown reason the final two league games take place over the next 5 weeks. We play Southampton away on April 26th. The Saints are currently 6th, then on the final day, which is on May 2nd we play current 2nd place team Birmingham, who will overtake us if they beat Sunderland next Wednesday.

The Addicks have also had a terrifc FA Cup run and are at home to WSL Liverpool next Saturday. The news that we sold just 1,000 tickets compared to Palace selling alomost 4,000 for our game today might also point to some of the structural issues the club face.

Promotion is still in Karen Hills and the players hands though. COYR.

Watch CAFC Women a lot and am not surprised that we have hit the buffers. It was coming a long time and we rode our luck. I hoped it was just a mid season glitch and they would rally towards the end of the season but not so.
I do hope we do manage to get the points to send us up. This is a brave team led by an excellent coach and they do deserve it

I was at the Sunderland v Newcastle match yesterday have retired to the Durham area from Kent 2 years ago. They are both fairly average sides. When you look at our ladies goals scored it follows the men’s team in we do not put the ball in the back of the net enough. Sunderland still have to play Birmingham and Palace I believe so my new local team could have a say in the final league table.

It was a tight game and we showed grit and determination to fight back but we sadly missed out…..Birmingham have 3 games left and Charlton 2……and our last game at home is against Birmingham !!!!
It’s a case of nerves and I’m sure Karen and backroom staff will sort that out
Hopefully we can get the points needed fir promotion and I’ll have everything crossed we do.

The results against ipswich and portsmouth have been the ones that have not been acceptable. Perhaps the players minds have been on the liverpool game as results have been poor since our opponents ball came out.The league should always be the priority and karen needs to make sure we win our remaining 2 league games. Between the Ladies and nens team it would be oh so Charlton and as far as the Ladies being wobbly, the same could be said of the mens team.
Wake up all at CAFC and fast

Yet here you are talking about the women’s team!!
The women’s team is part of Charlton Athletic Football Club and I’m more than happy to follow the women’s team. It’s Chicago Addicks blog and he can post whatever he wants.
