Charlton Athletic 1 Portsmouth 3
I couldn’t watch yesterday’s game as we were on our way to watch Andrea Bocelli in Tampa. Me and the operatic-other half drew straws to see if we listened to the game in the car or Bocelli’s greatest hits.
Fortunately she won.
It sounded awful, and reminds us of our sole objective this season, and what we are. Looking above and beyond is trecherous and we aren’t good enough for those aspirations. These days were going to come, but it is perfectly alright to be beaten by a better side, of which there are many in this league, but being beaten by a team more up for it, is not acceptable.
4 points from 9 at home is disappointing, and yesterday was a 6-pointer. This now puts more pressure on our trip to Southampton and to a greater degree makes next week’s midweek game even more important.
I haven’t watched the highlights yet, but it sounded a Kaminski error, a dodgy penalty but one that we would have claimed, and a screamer. That third goal the killer, even though new boy Fevrier pulled one back, but then we couldn’t up the tempo or the chance count, and we never likely to score 3 or 4 goals.
The referee looked to want to book our players at every opportunity and having both wing backs booked within the first 15 minutes is never helpful.
We just have to keep a clean sheet to have a chance of winning a game, and if we don’t then we never look likely too. This has to be addressed, and with Godden now injured, that is even less likely at this stage of our evolution.
Bad night around, and if Millwall was inexcusable then what the hell happened here.

It was a hard game to watch and if Leaburn has put the ball into the net after a few minutes things could have been different.
Pompey players knew the dark art of feigning injury and we were so nieve as totally let it happen …..Street wise not !!!
The referee had a poor game and the penalty was very dubious…we just didn’t get stuck into Pompey instead letbthem dictate play and tactics……playing Leaburm with Dykes up front was a wierd choice from ko….
At the end of the day we were outplayed and Pompey wanted more than us.
I think, with hindsight, we would all rather have been watching a Bocelli concert last night – probably even Little Jimmy Osmond as it turned out.
Outweighing the yellow cards and the penalty decision (which VAR would have given 100%) was the complete lack of any fluent football once we crossed the half way line. Even an injury ravaged Pompey played passing football through the midfield, but we just lumped it forward and hoped for flick ons.
I still think we will survive, but this performance was depressing.
Spot on I couldn’t go as my partner was not well so watched it on TV. I don’t know why anyone is saying its not a penalty, Bell raised his hand as he turned and the ball hit it, as you said 100% VAR would have given it plus Ramsey clearly pushed the player in the back in the box and VAR would have also given that, so we were lucky it wasn’t four! Completely and utterly outplayed by a team who had at least half of their best players out through injury, every player apart from Lloyd Jones should be ashamed of that performance also NJ for picking the same team, same formation and obviously telling the players to just hump it up to the big two front men and see if we can snatch a goal, it was pathetic.
Will he change the team or tactics for the next game, I doubt it, he will probably change one up front for neither of them scoring, as he nearly always does and the rest given yet another chance. Will Mannion finally be given a league game by NJ, especially as he was even according to Chelsea, the best Charlton player on the night against them, not a chance as Kaminski is NJ’s No 1 and unless he is injured he will stay there, no matter what!
Plus bringing on Berry as a sub three games running is beginning to get a complete joke, as he has done absolutely nothing, whilst better and more fitter players sit on the bench and don’t even get a look in, similar to certain players who have been shipped out on loan.
At present it appears we can only win when the other team don’t have eleven players on the pitch and unless NJ finally makes some drastic changes, on tactics, starting eleven and better use of the subs available and also bringing them on earlier if required, we could well soon be replacing one of the bottom three!
Complete shite from the off. The majority of these Charlton “player’s” need to take a long hard look at themselves. Sunday league standard at best.
Mate it was a shocker and embarrassing, we were so far off it -against a second-string Pompey side.
Yes the ref was ludicrous, dishing out yellows like confetti not to mention the ‘penalty’ (joke btw) but we were masters of our own downfall.
Our clean sheets are predominantly down to Lloyd Jones and very rarely to the credit of Kaminski, he cost us dear as he did against Stoke away, what Mannion has to do to get a start I don’t know.
Of our 3 midfield starters, out of position Coady and Doc have defensive qualities but can only really pass sideways or backwards, Carey also otherwise blessed but can’t really pass at all so no surprise the game plan is try and grind out a clean sheet and hoof to one of the big lumps up top. Them two were winning pretty much all the headers last night, looks to me like a better option is a mobile runner off of just one of them but that ain’t gonna be Godden.
I look at it and think probably 4 wins from 14, if we can’t manage that I’ll join the Jones Out brigade but for now, lets stay calm, united and move on but for sure, not count our chickens.
Where are we going to get four wins?
Think we need six points from fourteen games, possibly might need a couple more, which makes life harder.
Best Richard
Yeah right?
Can’t think of a worse performance this season….maybe Southampton at home. Pompey had at least eight of their first team squad sidelined with injury, but still looked head and shoulders above us. As soon as our teamsheet was out, I thought we were never going to score more than one, with the partnership of Dykes and Leaburn up front…..no pace at all. Why does NJ think that works? Hands up,we were shocking in all departments, nobody had a standout game. Can’t see us getting anything at Southampton, so the following Tuesday game at West Brom is massive.
Taking a couple of steps forward and then having a wobble backwards seems to be the pattern of the season, so far…
We are still seven points clear of the relegation places, and we do keep picking up points, so I think that he have enough about us to stay up.
I honestly think that once Kaminski made that mistake for the first goal, the defence lost a lot of confidence. Not long after, a ball over the top with no danger in sight, that Kaminski should have come out and picked up, needed Lloyd Jones to hack clear, because he dithered. I expect more from our highest wage-earner, and so does NJ, judging by his post-match interview!
We didn’t lose because of the referee- but his decision to make every early challenge into a foul and to flash cards about at random knackered our ability to press.
Nobody watching would have thought Charlton were especially dirty on the night, yet the stats show otherwise.
There was some seriously half hearted challenges going in, particularly from those already carded.
All around me supporters were shouting for us to get stuck in but self preservation meant this was unlikely, or we’d have been down to 9 men like Sheffield United recently.
I didn’t think we were that bad but unfortunately Pompey were very good on the day aided by the referee as their 12th man for first 45 minutes. First goal was bad goalkeeping error that virtually anyone above the age of 11 in the ground could have saved. Probably was a penalty under current handball rules albeit not intentional handball, but goalkeeper then dived out the way when I was hoping he’d just stand still and go for the ball once it had been kicked down the middle. Perhaps he dived out of the way to avoid letting it go between his legs again. Thought Docherty had a pretty good game overall and bringing Berry on for him took away rather than added. Pompey probably should’ve had a 2nd penalty in 2nd half but referee decided by then he may’ve been a bit generous in first half
What game were you watching? Hilarious.
Total and utter shite oh nearly forgot that 1st minute chance/
That was a golden chance to make up some ground on a relegation rival, and they blew it, badly.
Yes it’s accurate to say the Ref had a nightmare and that didn’t help. But he wasn’t alone when talking nightmares, so did just about every one of our players.
After the Stoke win people were saying that’s it we’ll be safe now.
You may want to think again, we’re very much in the relegation battle and it’s difficult to see where the next point(s) will come from.
It was another masterclass of N. Jones hoof it anti-football and we got what we deserved.
IF we scrape survival this year, it won’t be because of Nathan Jones. It will be in spite of Nathan Jones
200 per cent correct, Daggs, and to those still half-full brigade get real!!!
Genuinely I do wonder what it must be like to wish for the worst just so you can have a moan …maybe having a positive disposition is a curse despite what it’s given me in life🤔
My son was off work this week so for his birthday we headed down to the valley from Manchester thinking a tribute to one of our own headphones, Charlton may put on a good performance how wrong can one be. Two key figures in the game one the ref who dished out 7 yellow cards to the boys in red and then you’ve got kaminski who is a overpaid average keeper how many more errors can Jones put up with before will mannion gets a game.as for the game like most people have said only person who left the pitch with any pride was Lloyd Jones, if we can’t win 4games from the last 14 games we deserve what we get coyr
That is a very long way to go to see that!
Went to the QPR and Stoke games, in both games whilst we looked limited in football ability, we did compete and looked solid in defence. Portsmouth was always going to be the real test. I went with high expectations that the team could compete and get at least a draw.
The first minute was encouraging, the next 44 minutes were the worst Charlton performance I have witnessed at a home game in the last 20 years.
Based on what I have seen in the last three home games, our limited footballing ability suggests survival in 20th position in the Championship will be a good result and is far from certain.
Another top post with reality and Jones seeing more pathetic rantings, as well as for the “players” total and utter shite, to put it very mildly, indeed.
I know certain things but first time people don’t know what’s really going on lived so many times over many years. Strange
Appalled by the players never have i seen so much confusion and chaos amongst players i actually left after the third goal as it was cold and I had a 3hr drive home which I very really do one man stood out mr lloyd jones what’s tge point in paying £5m for a forward and never play him Leaburn is completely out of his depth sorry Miles i took my youngest son to carrow road on Saturday for FA cup against and I thought west brom were bad until I saw this shower of white sorry CA for language cant see us getting anything from southampton so lets see if we can get something from west brom hope your concert was good COYR
Shite not white
They all deserve far more industrial language and everyone at Charlton Pathetic GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
Some of “fans” were hardly supportive. Same people singing “we are staying up” the week before now booing the team.
First goal was a keeper howler. The pen was definitely a handball and the 3rd was a good hit (probably keeper could have done better). We threatened a comeback after the goal but that quickly faded. I’ve moved on already.
