Harry Gray

The transfer window opens in 8 days time, and typically Charlton rumours are thin on the ground.

Nathan Jones has talked openly about adding Championship quality to his squad. That could be a striker, midfielder and most definitely a left-sided wing back.

Southampton’s Joe Aribo was mentioned in dispatches a few weeks ago, Jones was even asked to comment on him, but he is on about 70 grand a week, so that is pie in the sky nonsense.

I suspect talks have been had with regard to us making Saints’ James Bree permanent. That may well be announced early in the new year, bearing in mind his loan ends on January 1st.

A couple of very unreliable sources added our name to the list of teams interested in signing Leeds’ Harry Gray on loan. Derby were also on that list.

Gray is one of four brothers, Tottenham’s Archie being one of them. The Gray’s have a long time connection with Leeds. Frank Gray and Eddie Gray are all family and his Dad is ex-Addicks, and Leeds striker Andy Gray.

If my calculations are right, Harry Gray was born when his Dad was at Charlton during the 2008-09 season.

So, there is a link, which might appeal to the young 5ft 11 striker who has only one league appearance to his name. That was last year, and it appears that a first loan move for the 17-year old is on the cards for January.

Other than the rubbish sources, there are two other issues with this. One is do we really think an untried, albeit really well regarded, 17-year old is the answer to Nathan Jones’ quest to improve his squad, the second is that Man City are apparently lining up a 40m bid.

If City do buy him, he may still go out on loan of course, but as we know Jones is anti-working and improving other team’s young players over our own.

Jones likes to get transfer’s done early. Last season he only added to the squad with a couple of loans, this time around he, Phil Chapple and Jim Rodwell are shopping for more.

Totally agree, why would NJ want to sign an untried 17 year old who I don’t believe has played any first team football let alone the Championship, when Kanu is scoring reguarly and is highly rated at Walsall, and has also played in Division one!
If he does sign him on loan, sums up what he thinks about Kanu.
Or maybe he was previously on Lutons books as a youngster? 🙂

Mmmmmm….personally I’d get Kanu back and I understand S.Claus at North Pole f.c. is available after the 25th and has a good track record of delivering what Charlton fans want.

Agree about Kanu I didnt see much of him ,but what i saw made me wonder what the knockers, wanted from the lad. Perhaps he HAS improved at Walsall. And might shut the wingers up (though i doubt it) They might leave TC alone.–As for Santa He/she left me another bloody tee shirt. And not even red and white

No mention on Fukuda then ? Though i am not sure what position he plays.Or any japanese players of repute, They cakewalked the qualifying Asian Confederation. They seem to be Jones style players ,who can run all day. (it must be the Sushi) Are highly technical ,and football savvy, I have a sneaky feeling that japan will be a ‘bolter’ in the WC, I dont know why.—- Jones/Chapple, IMO, should cast a net further than just British players There are so many Asian, Confederation. Fringe S American, and also Continental players, who are not ex Luton. or crippled .But some of the best, seem to turn out to be jouneymen.,to beware of.Even Oceana throw up an erudite gem, occasionally,And naturally ,bargain basement

I’m binging on watching the ACON games and wife has banished me to watch games in another room….Charlton should monitor the games as I’m convinced many are suitable for us if they meet all our criteria…..taxi for Chapple 😃
