International break
Synesthesia. Today’s word.
Mixed senses of disappointment this weekend as we have no game, and not waking with that nervous excitement stomach churn of what lies ahead, but also quite thankful that the day will be more relaxing.
The sometimes-enigmatic-other-half will be happier that she won’t have to attempt to read my mood tonight before we go out for dinner!
I don’t really like the international breaks, I can’t get excited about England outside of tournaments, but this is the last one until March so hang onto your hats because it’s about to get even more full on.
My comments chat post games has been an assortment of views, nearly all positive but punctuated by the odd disappointment, which only emphasizes how far this team has come. A year ago we were losing at Exeter.
Football is a game of opinions, so please keep the comments coming, but the one thing we can all agree on as a fan is this division brings so much more.
The Championship is relentless and thrilling and good. Games are exciting, stadiums are atmospheric, crowd’s are big. It is a great place to be and raised blood pressure aside, this is a wonderful place to watch your team play.
Long may it continue and judging by how quick tickets are being sold for next Saturday we can’t get enough of it.
COYR.

Note to Nathan….. sign Barnsley’s Keillor-Dunn in the January transfer window
We definitely had interest in the summer. I don’t believe he wanted to move south.
As someone who has posted “the odd disappointment” I know I’m a little out of step with the majority view (something I’ve experienced throughout my life)
I’ve been a supporter of Charlton Athletic since 1968 and feel that gives me a decent overview of the club.
There’s no doubt in my mind, Charlton’s natural place in the English pyramid is Tier two, in all it’s various guises. Fortunately that’s where we find the club right now.
After getting promoted the long way, I surmise few of us expected much more than survival. So top ten in the run-up to Christmas is something to be enjoyed.
However, you knew there would be a however didn’t you? I have experienced some disappointment this season. Our style of play is scrappy and ill-defined. We seem to be aiming for 0-0 at half-time, grab a goal second half and play the game out.
Our strikeforce is virtually non-existent without Godden. Most of our goals coming from midfielders or defenders. NJ plays one system and one system only, regardless of player availability.
Does all this add up to moaning? I don’t believe it does. With a little more variation in tactics and a new striker in January, I feel we can cement our place in Tier two for the season and possibly beyond. Along the way, we may even entertain our supporters, after all that is supposed to be part of the day out.
Nothing wrong with a moan Daggs…..I’ve had plenty over the years about things at our beloved club.By the way I beat you by 4 years, as we moved to Charlton (Coxmount Road, opposite Harvey Gardens) from Greenwich as a young lad (nine) in 1964, and have had the Addicks in my blood ever since my mates and I used to bunk in over those old red corrugated iron gates. My current moan is why the hell NJ isn’t playing Apter in place of TC. Moan on mate.
The old joke used to be ‘did you bunk out’ 🙂
Ha ha, no, it was hard enough getting in over those bloomin’ gates…..and those were the days when everybody played attacking football. With two quick wingers like Len Glover and Mike Kenning it always seemed to be exciting. (I’m probably looking through rose tinted glasses though….Lol)
Me and my mate bunked out of Brighton v Charlton back in the 80s the game was dire and we tried to leave at half time but for some reason the local police would not let us so we had to climb the wall !
I’m always interested in your viewpoint, Daggs.
Thanks Chig.
Total agree with you Daggs & Greg re Apter, hasn’t put a foot wrong since he came here and he takes on players rather than looking to pass backwards, unlike NJ’s recent stop gap Hernadez who is just another version of Kirk, who won’t take any try to take any player one on one and looks to play backwards!
I mean Apter should play Saturday, shouldn’t he?
