Chuks signs for Shrewsbury

Chuks Aneke signed for Shrewsbury Town today, making him the last of the players released by the Addicks in the summer to get themselves sorted.

There’s a really good interview, if you ignore the comments about Michael Appleton, with Chuks on the Shrewsbury website if you have five minutes.

It might be, well it is an exaggeration to put Chuks in the legend bracket at Charlton, but in what is a rarefied place in the last decade, Chuks meant a lot to many of us, despite his well documented problem’s (plural) with injuries.

For a time he was, for the level, the ultimate super sub, and the anticipation when he came on was palpable, alas his age, although still only 32, and more so his injury history finally caught up with him.

Shrewsbury I have big suspicions under Appleton will be relegation candidates from League Two, but they got their first win this past weekend. John Marquis is still in Salop and Appleton also signed Bradley Ihionvien on loan from Peterborough and Anthony Scully from Pompey to add to their striking options. Expect Chuks to take up his familiar place on Shrewsbury’s bench at home to Salford this Saturday

Tennai Watson ended up picking Barnsley in the summer and has been a regular in their good start. Aaron Henry is at Boreham Wood in the National League, but has been sat on the bench.

The other player that moved on in the summer was short contracted Aussie ‘keeper Dean Bouzanis, who after 5 years in England moved back home and signed for Brisbane Roar.

Glad he’s found and signed for a club, albeit only on a short contract. Chucks always seemed an amicable sort of guy who gave his all when he pulled on his Charlton shirt. His time with us (I think about five and a half seasons) was fraught with injuries and I don’t think we ever saw the best of him due to his body letting him down time after time. Good luck at Shrewsbury and with your onward career journey Chucks, and thank you.

I liked Chucks. Despite his many injury worries during his time with us, each time he pulled on a Charlton shirt, he gave 100%. Off the field he seemed an amicable kind of guy too. Am glad he has found a club albeit a short contract. (Although I’m not sure Appleton will teach him much anyway !!). Good luck to you Chucks in whatever direction you take in your future career, and thank you for your time as an Addick.

Good luck Chucks but Appleton will not teach him anything.
CAFC however, still have injury-prone players and unfit players AND JUST SAYING!!!

Chuks had natural talent but his hamstrings / leg muscles were made of tissue paper. I don’t recall him doing 90mins for a few seasons. His super sub status kinda made him a folk hero as he would influenced games with his technical ability and strength. Unfortunately even as super sub he would break down. He had to move on and I wish him all the best and enjoyed seeing him play.

Chicago – where are you when I need you? Am a bundle of nerves and feel sick already. Nathan says he understands but does he? Bit late in the day but I’m only round the corner and available to do the team talk. God I bloody hate this lot.
