Knibbs deal off

According to reports from Reading, Charlton have pulled out of a deal to sign Harvey Knibbs.

A fee of £1.8m was agreed and Knibbs was apparently at the training ground this week, so a little mysterious and a lot disappointing.

There is no hiding the fact that a number 10 with Knibbs attributes would be a vital part of Nathan Jones’ Championship competitive squad.

For a transfer to collapse at this point would either mean a failed medical, a change of heart by the player and either an agent or Reading making further demands.

We may never know, but these things still have a habit of taking another turn. Knibbs has played no part in Reading’s pre-season games suggesting that he was ready to move on, or does that suggest an injury.

Jones, Chapple and Rodwell will need to look further down their player list, not saying that Knibbs was no. 1 choice but the club have tracked the 26-year old all summer.

Out of all the players signed on so far this is probably the biggest loss of not signing Knibbs, as besides a main No 9, we don’t have another attacking midfielder who can score goals on a regular basis, which we haven’t had for quite a few years! Very disappointing and like CA have no idea why this has happened at the very last minute when it appeared everything had been agreed? Plus could cost us dearly if one of the other clubs who were after him, now snap him up and he performs really well.

Close season running so well up until now, then two stories come out in the space of two days, would be nice if we were allowed info on these stories if just to avoid speculation.
But hey things are good let’s just concentrate on all the good stuff.

That’s a real blow, his stats and performances absolute quality. Looking at number of appearances last season, can’t imagine fitness or injury was the issue, after all we just signed Reece Burke. More likely failure to agree personal terms or a bigger carrot dangled in Sheffield.

Agree with Mike above. He could have been the best bit of business done in the window so far. Listening to Noel Hunt’s interview it was a total surprise to him that the deal had fallen through at this late stage, and he even intimated that the player was looking forward to the move. I’m sure the details will become aparent soon. Meanwhile, on to number two on NJ’s list of attacking midfielders.!!!

I thought that signing Knibbs would have been a very good deal, as a attacking midfielder is a definite requirement for the squad.
I hope at some stage we find out the reason it went wrong.

As it appears it is not u that has backed out then the problem must be at their end, so surely this rules out injury? Most situations seem to arise from money, so, if the guy is as good as suggested then get the cheque book out. If a comparatively few quid extra helps us to stay in the Championship or better, then it’s a no brainer.

It was pretty quiet on news after the initial media burst on this signing. I think he is a good player and was excited about us being linked to him. If that has fallen through then we have to move on. I heard some chat about the situation around ahmade is part of the issue, as he needs to move on to release wages to balance under the fair play rules, but no idea if this true or just speculation. The Sheffield Wednesday situation is an interesting one, with players opting to release themselves from contracts. Perhaps there is a player or two from there we are now interested in. I guess they will be on a good salaries , but who knows. I see they are now odds on to go down.

Really strange what has been happening as even their Manager had said it had fallen through, but whatever, hes now signed and thats great news, as thats the one position we don’t seemed to have been able to fill for ages, a midfielder who can score on a regular basis! 🙂
