Miles Leaburn signs new contract

“We feel we have real unfinished business with myself and Miles together.” – Nathan Jones.

A little bit out of the blue this, but today Charlton locked Miles Leaburn down to a new 3-year contract. His old one was due to expire next summer.

I thought Leaburn’s situation was an interesting dilemma for both player and club. An injury prone young player who has a really good opportunity to play at a higher level if he can remain fit.

For the club it is a no brainer to tie him down to maximize his value. For Leaburn there had been whispers that he would seek to move, but you’d have to wonder who would take a chance on him, yet of course Premier League clubs, some not all, just stockpile young players so no one else can have them.

So then it looks a good move by both parties. Leaburn does get a chance to prove himself at a higher level and with a club he knows so well and is nurtured, and with a fan base that will give him every opportunity.

It is good news for fans, I’m looking forward to see how he does next season and it sounds as if he is fit and raring to go. Unfinished business indeed.

Great news, Miles. Hopefully both player and club can go from strength to strength.

That is good news. But jeez i hope he doesn’t get crocked in one of the pre season friendlies. Was it this time last year that that happened or the season before? It’s all becoming a bit of a blur

This is a big season for Miles. He has to stay fit and prove that he can step up a level, otherwise you begin to fear that he will never quite fulfill his potential.

This is common sense protection of Miles’s value to CAFC as a whole. If one of the premier league predators wants to take him away, they’ll now have to pay proper market money for his signature.
This way, when Miles has a stellar 15+ games up until Christmas, scoring 10 goals, that predator has to be talking 7 figures to open negotiations.
It’s also a big vote of confidence from NJ in ML which could be the last piece in the jigsaw to unleash his potential.

Getting players extended deals, building for the future.
