Amari’i Bell signs

You can ring my…. 🔔

This looks a sensible squad building signing. Left sided centre back Amari’i Bell has signed on a 2-year deal after the expiry of his contract at Luton Town.

Born in Burton-on-Trent, Bell first came to significance whilst at Fleetwood Town ten years ago. Blackburn signed him from there in January 2018 and he helped Rovers get promotion out of L1 and then spent three seasons with them in The Championship.

Nathan Jones signed Bell as a free agent in the summer of 2021 and in total played 157 games for the Hatters, including 21 in the Premier League and 31 last season in The Championship.

Loads of experience at this level Bell brings character to the dressing room and will provide good cover on the left side of defence.

The 31-year old also has 28 Jamaican caps, and was recently at the Gold Cup with them in the U.S.A.

Bell said “it’s a fresh start for me and one that I’m looking forward to as Charlton are on the way back up. It’s another chance to work with Nathan who is a great manager that knows how to get the best out of his players, and he certainly does for me. It’s going to be a great time.”

Welcome Amari’i.

A little bit concerned with this one . Agreed he has good experience but Luton fans feel he has lost a step and prone to loss of concentration and to errors.

My concern to date is that I see no inspired signings and if the press are to believed we are losing out to other clubs who have more money it seems .

That being said still early in the transfer market so keeping my fingers crossed

You need to be realistic … we have a small budget. So need to be frugal in the transfer market. This is a good squad signing, experienced and played at that level. Not sure what you are expecting? Big money signings on big wages ??

I understand that but as a reminder we will be at least $9m better off from payments . Plus hopefully better crowds and increased sponsorship. That will be off set by higher w ages to current squad

I am not expecting us to be in the top 6 …a mid table place would be great, but we all saw our short comings despite promotion. We have a good squad but need a couple of real quality players..one creative mid field player for sure…..but in the end I just want us to survive, not like last time. Over the seasons we have seen quantity over quality doesn’t win out..

Agree with Alan, as it appears we can’t even compete on wages with Stockport!!! See Peterboroughs Manager & Co’s lastest comments on selling their top striker last season to Stockport!
Re your comments Red-Army, we made quite a few really poor freebie signings last year who were just not good enough, who also use to play for Luton &/or played previously for Jones in the past, who were good in those years but not the same players now, Potts and Hylton just to name a couple.
Plus we paid out last season with less money, on our most expensive player for many years, who was a flop Mr A, and was really a complete unknown!

Which is why we need more quality not just more bodies, as we already have quite a few exisiting players who are just not good enough for the Championship, which Jones actually intimated as soon as we were promoted. So is he now looking to change his plan?

I guess you forget that Gooden was freebie, and got a lot of stick when he was signed, probably you were on that bandwagon as your with previous comments on May. Is mothersville that ambitious that he wants to play for Stockport on a potato field for a pitch. As the Peterborough chairman said.. good luck to him. As the player you referred to as a flop, previous comments on here which u have ignored, mentioned he was £400k. No one can see how someone will turn out. As usual fans with hindsight make bold statements. We need to be realistic.. and give this squad a chance . There will be more signings before the transfer window. Squads are built on team ethics ..other championship clubs can offer more money..it will be a fight to this season as this league is the strongest for awhile.
I know I will be supporting them, rather jumping on their back before the season has started. There

Please get your facts straight again Red-Army, Godden was a good purchase and thought he was one of Jones good buys, but he wasn’t a Freebie he cost around £400,000!

You choose to focus on particular facts when it suits you.
Ignoring the other facts when presented to you as they don’t suit your agenda or boring narrative. Go and support another club if you can’t get behind the club .. take your alleged support elsewhere, as your type of support is not wanted or welcomed. Jog on Mike.. join those those negative supporters who get off on slagging off the club you allegedly support.

Well the true fact is you hardly come on this site, only when Charlton are doing well! I would guess you are another of those Johnny come lately supporters who only jump on the band wagon when a side are doing well! I have been supporting the club through thick and thin for over 50 years, you are the one who should really jog on Red-Army and actually get your facts correct again, as nowhere does anyone say Mr A cost £400,000? If you bothered to check, all the reports, pundits, sky etc advise he cost Charlton around £1mil. Plus for your information I did try and post that on here but it didn’t show up and in all honesty I couldn’t be bothered to write it up again, but you latest waffel has made me now respond!
Also I don’t slag off the club as you like to put it, I fully support the club and are 100% behind us winning and always give credit where its due but also don’t wear rose coloured glasses like yourself, plus simarly previously critising Alan Oakes as you don’t agree with his opinions, only your own! I will continue to also give my opinions on my concerns, which many others on here do agree with, if I think the club are going in the wrong direction, whatever they maybe, as Charlton are my team and I certainly don’t want to see us dropping back down again for the third time running. Which if they were, I would still be supporting them, unlike many who wouldn’t!!!

Well said Mike, you and I don’t always agree but I respect your opinion more than that of a Johnny come lately. I have supported CAFC since the late 1950s and also the reserves/U21s and youth teams. I give praise and criticism where I feel it is justified. I followed CAFC in the 1970s when things were at a very low ebb, gates fell below 5k on a regular basis. Most of those supporters were critical but still attended.

For the your and rietri’s record , many years ( sorry decades) a supporter, decades a season ticket holder, valley clearance helper , shareholder, current VG member since the start . Not sure what this all means..but seems to be some sort badge of honour competition . You say people support you.. laughable comment. So Mr A was £1mil with add ons. Fee paid was £400k .. you were told that in a previous posting .. but you ignored it as it didn’t fit your rhetoric of slagging transfers before the player had kicked a ball. The same boo boys , laid into May after 3-4 games and with Godden. They did the same with gillispie, Coventry, berry and others . The realistic situation is that we are not Birmingham and Wrexham, cant go out and get players on big wages. Stockport have broken their transfer record and wage ceiling with motherville. Big gamble as their players will want more money too. Clearly he wanted the wages not championship football , playing in bigger and better stadiums . It is going to be tough, and we need all the fans behind us, it’s easy to support when winning, but the real fans come forward when the players are down and need that support…I will behind the club..
