Saturday’s without football
What did you do yesterday?
Watch Lee Carsley’s brilliant England U21’s retain the Euro Championship? Sing-a-long to the Glastonbury coverage? Watch the empty seats under dark sky’s during the ridiculous weather break of the Chelsea match? Or something completely different..
I’m just about shaking football out of my system as I try to do most summer’s, but Saturday’s have felt especially empty in recent weeks what with no proper summer tournament, other than the U21 Euro’s.
Yesterday then we made a late call and decided to chuck the dog in the car plus a few bags and drive across Interstate 75, better known as Alligator Alley from Sarasota to Miami. West to east across possibly the most famous but drab road in Florida.
It was a breeze yesterday as the traffic was sedentary, with most American’s keeping their powder dry before the July 4th weekend, and weather was perfect.
We got a cheap rate on one of our favourite hotels, that even has a dog room service menu, and sat by the pool all afternoon, drunk margaritas before going to dinner at Hutong, which was sadly woeful.
Back to Mr Chow next time then for over the top expensive Chinese food. Their chicken satay is to die for, unlike the chicken chili dish I had last night at Hutong.
Today a stroll, a leisurely breakfast, some pool time, maybe a quick shop before a late check-out and a drive back across Alligator Alley to see if any Charlton transfer rumours are starting to surface.

I watched Worksop Town vs St Joseph’s Worksop in a local charity game. It was too hot for football!
Saturdays out of season, (especially this year) I keep one eye on your blog in case there is any transfer activity, but usually tune in to any cricket that is broadcast on TV. India are our Test Match opponents this year, and after our win in the First Test, it may be a good contest in the remaining four. As they always contain a weekend, it will take me up to the start of the football season !!! Did watch our under 21’s last night, which was a pretty good contest, and a great result. (Always good to beat the Germans) By the way, there’s a strong rumour we have put in a £1.5 million bid for Olaofe of Stockport.
Been, mulling through the away fixtures, and working out how I can enhance my journeys, maybe meeting up for Golf with an old friend and making it a little trip out of it, but yes my emotions feeling bad or feeling good get stunted this time of year, this will be my 64th season and I still get high looking forward to it, just renewed my train pal pass,
What is life without Charlton, born there went to school there met my wife there got married there still meet my brother there for a drink there, My whole life has been connected to Charlton, , lost a good friend last October, lived in Charlton his entire 68 years, he never married, he used to say why marry when there’s Charlton Athletic
Rest in peace Mick one of the best.
Brilliant, Daniel. And a great tribute to Mick ♥️
Started a new FC24 manager career, Charlton obviously with 200m to spend. Then watched the under 21s and have been keeping an eye on some shopping profiles on Instagram. Hoping to get a new bit on Stoney for the new season.
I normally end up watching endless highlights of our play-off games after a play-off promotion, but the excitement this year was all about the result (and the wonderful support), not really the football, so haven’t done much of that. I can’t watch tennis, it’s so slow… and the squash season has now ended (a brilliant TV sport now, although only available to stream). So it’s cricket and I’m also now waiting impatiently for the Tour de France to start!
