Ipswich at Colchester

I presume they were waiting on the fixture release, and our game against Ipswich is a couple of months in, so the Addicks will take on the Tractor Boys in a pre-season friendly at Colchester United’s ground.

The game will be played on Tuesday, July 29th at 7.30pm to round out our pre-season schedule.

The JobServe Community Stadium is described as the largest entertainment venue in Essex hosting regular conferences, shows, events and exhibition games so there you are.

Yet, I don’t know if you have read Daniel Storey’s ‘Doing the 92’ articles but he just voted the JobServe Community Stadium the worst ground in the country! Some good thought provoking articles if you haven’t seen them.

Back to Ipswich. The relegated Championship side will begin the season as favourites for promotion and it will be a good test.

Hmm, unusual to play a side from the same division in a pre- season friendly. Not sure if it’s a good or bad thing really.

A good solid test preseason. What sort of test for the championship is playing league 2 sides preseason? The shock of suddenly playing good teams might overwhelm our boys at the beginning of the season. I would like to have seen another preseason game against strong London opposition eg Fulham or West Ham?

As long as we don;t get a hammering that destroys morale……..remember,last season,Ipswich put up some decent performances against some of the top Premiership sides, even though they were relegated,
