Cardiff City speculation
A tweet from a Welsh journalist has turned a lot of Charlton fan’s heads this weekend. He is speculating that Nathan Jones is a long and expensive shot to be Cardiff City’s next manager.
The Welsh club who we bypassed on the way to The Championship are looking for their 10th manager in 4 years.
Aaron Ramsey, Ian Evatt, Brian Barry-Murphy and Des Buckingham lead the favourites list with Jones as a long shot but journalist Paul Abbandonato is pushing the narrative on social media.
Jones is a boyhood Cardiff fan and has mentioned previously he’d like to manage them one day, but as of today Jones is the second year into a project that he really wanted to take on at a club he has real infinity with and where he can drive culture on and off the pitch.
Jones has a direct relationship with the owners and has the final footballing decision making power within the management and owner group, and has found himself in a job where he has and can continue to rebuid his reputation. Now at a level where he feels he should manage.
A football club that has just won a major trophy backed by 40,000 fans with an exciting and steady footing, not seen at The Valley in over decade, to go forward compared to a club on a downward spiral with an owner perhaps worst that Roland Duchatelet.
Money talks and moreover Jones is a complex character, but we’ve got hope that just a week after one of the club’s greatest days, that this storyline fades away.

I have just re-read the article on the Club’s website where Nathan Jones is saying how proud he is of everything at the Club from his own job, the players and the supporters, and what 4 days later he is talking to Cardiff about becoming their 10th Manager in 4 years?… that’s almost two and a half Managers a year!!
It clearly ain’t going to happen but is causing a bit of a schism within our fan base, the sooner the Club put this to bed the better!
Please come back Rich Crawley we really need you mate.
Just what is needed…speculation and I hope that both Nathan and the Clubd realise what has been achieved this season and the foundations for a bright future has been achieved.
Vincent Tan may have money but his track record is appalling with so many sackings over recent years….its not a club any
sensible manager would take on unless they are desperate.Nathan has achieved so much and clearly he wants to build on what he’s achieved to date with fans and players 100% behind him.
Let’s hope things are squashed and we can get on with building for the future
Just when the club has found leadership, we have to fend off another dodgy owner. Nathan, don’t have your head turned.
Our project is progressing with you at the helm.
Click bait journalism…I think this is the second time that a lazy hack has linked Nathan Jones to Cardiff, the previous occasion being when the last manager was sacked. You’ll see the story get rehashed in a few months when the next manager moves on…
NJ has said that something along the lines of one day he’d like to manage Cardiff and fair enough, they are his boyhood club etc.
But why would you swap Charlton for Cardiff and go down the league pyramid to a club where you will be micro-managed and have an owner with a reputation for hiring and firing? Cardiff are in L1 for a reason and it has more to it than just having one bad season. NJ will know far more about what’s going on behind the scenes there than we do and he’ll know that maybe he’ll earn a little bit more but he’ll be hurting his reputation as a manager which he’s patiently restoring. Plus he’s getting to make the decisions that directly affect his job.
Yes, who knows football at times acts very strangely and so many aspects to consider and CAFC reward Jones with a much bigger salary and a few bob to spend but will not go gung ho in the market.
I have no idea whether NJ is wanted by Cardiff, nor whether he would go if it was the case.
If it should happen ………………. Come back Chris Powell.
Biggest load of tosh … Jones is not going to Cardiff and here’s why one they not made contact with Charlton 2- there owner said he would not pay compensation 3- they interviewed 4 people 5 According to Cardiff fans Des Buckingham will be appointed this week
Nj is a great manager I don’t think he ll have his head turned if he he does he needs his head tested he will stay I m sure of it remember everybody he s not the messiah…
He is a Cardiff fan but would be a mug to leave Charlton now.
