Jimmy Hendry RIP
Scott Minto said on social media today that former Charlton physio Jimmy Hendry had passed away. The Scot was popular at The Valley and joined at the time Lennie Lawrence was made manager in 1987.
Jimmy played in Scotland for Queens Park, moved south to study physiotherapy and then worked for Chelsea before moving to The Valley.
I think Jimmy replaced Bill Gallagher, who combined the role back then with that of kit man. Those were the days.
Jimmy would sprint onto the field of play with his bucket and sponge and came across as a great character. He carried on working for the club when Gritt and Curbs took over. He left I think in 1990.
A memory of him that comes to mind was him attempting to hold Carl Leaburn back after he revived him with the old smelling salts at the battle of the Bridge game. Carl just dragged Jimmy with him as he went looking for Steve Wicks.
Sleep well, Jimmy.

Jimmy…not Jummy
Thank you, Vic. I blame the nerves.
Hey quick question from NY to Chicago. Have been a Charlton fan all my life but am working in NY. Any idea where I might watch or screen the game at the weekend? Thanks. Ian Rickson.
Ian, I understand there is a small band of Addicks meeting at Smithfield Hall.
It’s a decent ‘soccer’ pub. The pub has confirmed it is opening 5 mins before kick off.
