My Top Five 2024 Favourite TV Shows

I used to be such a movie watcher, but for some reason I just can’t sit through a film anymore, but strangely I can binge a TV show and did I plenty in 2024.

I’m not sure it was a vintage TV year, although I’m not always watching the most up to date shows, as you’ll probably see from my list. These are My Top Five 2024 Favourite TV Shows 📺

1️⃣ Bad Sisters 1 & 2, Apple TV🧍‍♀️

I was late to this, but I immersed myself in the two season’s of this nuanced and complex black comedy. It’s dark, but has a rich vein of Irish comedy running through it. Season two ended with parallels of the first, with sadly no signs of a third. I will miss the sisters.

2️⃣ Kin 1 & 2, BBC 💊

Wonderfully acted, this hard hitting story depicts the hard inner belly of Ireland’s gangsters. A fictional Dublin family embroiled in a gangland war. I binged both seasons back to back and it has a real edge of the seat brutality to it.

3️⃣ Slow Horses 3 & 4, Apple TV 🕵🏻‍♂️

This sardonic classic British spy show is as loveable as ever made by a fabulous suite of characters led of course by the one and only Gary Oldman. The most unlikely group of champions save the day. Season 5 will drop later this year.

4️⃣ Lincoln Lawyer 3, Netflix ⚖️

I forgot how good this was. Season 3 built on the other two excellent series. Loads of twists, a clever plot and characters that you can buy into especially Mickey Haller. A well written and addictive courtroom drama.

5️⃣ Mr Bates v Post Office, ITV 📬

This 4-part series based on the real-life story of postmaster Alan Bates, who led the campaign to expose what is considered the most widespread miscarriage of justice in British history was a real eye-opener. Toby Jones was brilliant.

📺 Honourable Mentions: Back Doves; The Gentleman.

Agree on Kin and Mr Bates…if you have not come across it yet I would include FROM, available on Now TV. Frighteningly good comparison to the great film ‘Groundhog day’. Not for the feint hearted.

If you like a bit of historical fiction then the last segment of Wolf Hall dropped just before Christmas and might still be available on iPlayer. Called the Mirror and the Light it takes the Thomas Cromwell story from the execution of Ann Boleyn up to the end. Even if you aren’t particularly into history the acting, cast, costumes etc are stellar.
