Rodwell, Methven, Scott. What have you got say for yourselves?

Talking Point 🗣️

I don’t want to take any heat off Nathan Jones, because he needs to own where we are after ten months of his management, yet it is important to remind ourselves how we got here.

When is the last time we heard from any of the above? I can tell you. Hardly a peep since they all got themselves snazzy new job titles in June.

Scott did speak in August following the departure of Paul Hart, and on this I agree with others, I think Jones is not the same operator without Hart at his side.

Charlie Methven and Gavin Carter were Bromley Addicks guests in October, and as you would expect Charlie filled the room with big words and long sentences.

Since then? Tumbleweed. A penny for their thoughts.

How we constantly get lumbered with high maintenance, under performing, bullshitting leadership is one of many questions that fills my head in bed at night along with ‘why wasn’t my Dad an Arsenal fan.’

But, seriously what about a renewed focus on our so called leadership team. Yes, they have been more open, possibly because they like the sound of their own voices, and they’ve tried to implement plans, but with every passing week it is looking more and more like they’ve royally cocked it up, again.

I have a job probably like a lot of folk these days, where some people insist on a PowerPoint presentation for everything.

In January Rodwell alongside Paul Elliot and Gavin Carter did an online meeting open to supporters. The video is still available.

I wrote at the time that it “was refreshing at least that member’s of the newish management / investor group deigned it important enough to talk to us because that is a major leap forward from previous supposed stalwarts of our great football club.”

The most talked about slide following their presentation was the one entitled ‘squad-building structure’ and the outlandish and kooky idea of 8+8+8. Honestly it brings a tear to my eye. That slide has not aged well.

During the same meeting they all rigorously defended Michael Appleton, who they then fired 13 days later. Rodwell also heavily backed Andy Scott’s record. How he’s still being paid by the club is a mystery.

I was fed a great stat today by the way. Not all under Scott’s watch admittedly, but it underlines the utter mismanagement by people entrusted to run our football club.

Since we were relegated in July 2020 we have signed 85 players on permanent and loan. Only 5 of those (3 loans) have gone on to play at a higher level.

The club continues to rot and stink of mold.

When do we expect to hear next from Rodwell, Methven and Scott? The latter I suppose as we get close to the transfer window or a contrived few words about a new signing that is going to change the world.

As for Rodwell and Charlie boy. Perhaps more crap about streamlining costs, signing elite players, fan engagement and selling half season tickets. Photos of The Valley last night with about 6,500 in it are throughly depressing.

It is almost two years since this lot took over. Does the investor group collective care? Does anyone in that group have any oversight or does this management group just run roughshod.

The Nathan Jones experiment is quickly going down the plug hole and just as the players are managed by Jones, he is managed by Rodwell and Scott. What do they have to say for themselves and I include Paul Elliot and Gavin Carter in that as well. They should all be answerable.

You’re so right to shine a torch on that lot CA because they are a shambolic bunch of self-serving jobs for the boys idiots accountable to a seemingly ill informed bunch of fractional unengaged investors.

Jones has to own his tactics but in my view, he’s the only one amongst them with any clue as to how to get out of this awful league, he’s done it and properly backed would do it again, not just words/PowerPoint.

Scott simply has to go. Not sure you can blame Jones for Mitchell missing one my mum would’ve tucked away and the AMB assist. Scott is to blame for us having a first choice GK who was Cambridge no.2 and we’re supposed to have promotion aspirations?? That’s before we’ve shown the door to CBT, Dobson, May. Also not the fault of Jones.

I really now don’t think we’ll get out of this league (upwards at least) with this SLT in charge, they can make Jones the next scapegoat if they want but that’ll just put as back to square 1 and continue the downward spiral.

Mate it’s approaching the season of goodwill, you need to get some feel good and positivity going on the blog please!! But you seriously can’t mean that about your Dad being a Gooner, imagine singing that cringy contrived North London Forever song when you’re actually from Woolwich?

    Chicago Addick ,

I have been a degree critical of on or two of your more “grandstanding” posts .Nevertheless i endorse every comment you make above and very well put .

The loss of CBK , Dobson , and May …all creative players and the inability to sign a good goal keeper are key to Charlton’s demise and , maybe , there is more to Harts departure than meets the eye ?

One of the big seasons turning points was , in my opinion , the press conference Jones held post match after an appalling loss .I think it lasted 3 minutes and he absolutely slated the team after a great seasons start .The ” team ” have never been the same since .

I have been prepared to give the team the benefit of the doubt given the injury to key players for lengthy spells ..virtually impossible to build cohesion with some many players on the sidelines . What has happened to the much acclaimed Will Abbott in all of this ?? Nowhere to be heard !!

However , the football witnessed over the last few league games has been the worst i have seen in 65 years of supporting Charlton ..bad pass , foul , bad pass, foul , bad pass, foul , 80 yard hoof from the back , and so it goes on !!

I still have faith in the ownership and believe the long term plans and vision outlined previously will , if delivered , be about right for us .

Nevertheless they need to sever, at great cost no doubt , links with the tier one execs and re-appoint . Unless they do i fail to see any improvement in our position or football .

    Cheers ,

    Mike Fitzgerald

We may all think the SMT are useless chancers. But suggesting they are all sacked begs the question, sacked by whom?

The problem that sticks out like a pimple on a pigs arse is NJ. The SMT have the power to sack him and need to do so urgently.

We have to get through this season without being relegated. If that were to happen it could well be the death knell of CAFC.

Duchatelet would say there’s no interest in Charlton at The Valley, I’ll seek out a purchaser/developer. This club is in real danger.

The owners can and should sack all of them, al8ng with Elliott and employ a decent director of football who can oversee the football side of things.

what has Scott got to do with it Jones has now full control of recruitment in and out of the club … CM is not an owner and has nothing to do with footballing side if the club …

CM is the CEO, responsible for the off-pitch growth of the football club and will oversee the day-to-day running of the club at The Valley and has a 5% ownership stake.
AS is Technical Director in charge of the club’s first-team football departments at the training ground.

but Scott not responsible for transfers in or out .. that why Jones has the manager title ..Jones brought Mannion , Mitchell , Gilly , etc etc on the subject of the 3 .. May handed in a transfer request after we turned down 2 bids for him , Dobson turned down 2 new offers if a new contract then signed ridiculous contract … CBT the most overrated player ever to wear the shirt look how well he done at Derby there already letting him go in January on loan ..but once CBT pretended to be injured to force a move back north that was the end at our club

          Dobson wanted out agreed.

          CBT actually wasn’t all that.

          But:

Alfie May handed in a transfer request when the Welsh waste of space made it obvious he wasn’t wanted.

we seem to attract very bad owner’s to this club and it’s been going on for years at least allwen and co got us to the promise land and then let Murray take over and it all went wrong

Murray then slater then Roland then nilmar then ESI then Thomas but at least he saved the club from extinction

all of these chairman owners have picked bad inept managers especially the rat

I’ve said this before I don’t like jones his ego is too big he still thinks he got Luton promoted to the premier league and last week said Matty gooden is the perfect replacement for Alfie

    total fruitcake

but it doesn’t matter what I think of the manager he is there to get us out of this league this is his pick of players he brought them in so bad performances are down to his tatics

I really don’t know if it’s going to make any difference sacking him as who would take over with the January sales looming

but the board stay so quiet it’s like they really don’t give a crap

up next is the mighty Lincoln town away
