Barnsley 2 Charlton Athletic 2

Poor once again. It was so very Charlton to throw that away, but three points would have been daylight robbery. One point was shoplifting.

Today made me think that Birmingham and Stockport were anomalies, and although the table is tightly packed together I have nightmarish visions of mid-table mediocrity once again.

There are patches of stuff, but we cannot get footholds in games, and for the opening 25 minutes we played alright, but we rely on half-chances.

There were some really poor performances tonight. Missing your two best players we’ve seen this season is already hurting, but so many players were either anonymous or rubbish.

Anderson, Alan Campbell, Gillesphey, REG, Coventry, Edwards were all not up to snuff. Defensively we were shambolic and some of the passing dreadful.

Mitchell badly misses the calm head of Jones beside him and the much hankered for partnership of Leaburn and Godden wasn’t really a partnership at all. Although we can hope that will improve.

Leaburn is rusty, but he was lively and also somehow cleared off the line in the 2nd half. Add that to the crossbar and Mannion, although I thought he ought to have done better with their opener, all prevented us from being well out of reach.

Small, Berry and TC were all on, but it was completely out of the blue that Berry scored the equalizer. It was a lovely arrowed volley.

At that point we’d have taken a draw, but Berry had other ideas and he calmly punished a poor punch from their ‘keeper to put us ahead in front of a stunned away end.

A win looked unfathomable but it was the 93rd minute. Oh come on. Nope, it was too much to ask.

Jones was fuming after again, uber-critical once more of his players, but the buck has to stop with him.

I didn’t think we were that bad. The delivery is better with Taylor and I thought we did look quite dangerous (admittably not as dangerous as them). Anderson was off it. I do worry about Jones hanging the players out to dry like that so often, I feel like it won’t last, either he will do well and be poached or do badly and resign.
