Shrimpers away
The draw for the 1st Round proper of the FA Cup was held at Bradford tonight and the Addicks were drawn away to Southend United.
It’s a good draw for fans, and as the balls left began to get fewer and fewer we could have been paired with Birmingham, Wrexham, Peterborough, Blackpool or Gillingham.
Whilst Tonbridge would have been fascinating and evoked memories of 1972, Southend will be a good day out. I do wonder if the game will be picked for TV though. There are a few obvious picks – MKD v Wimbledon, Sutton v Birmingham, Northampton v Kettering, Bristol Rovers v Weston-super-Mare, but not many.
That annoying figure of mirth Macauley Bonne is at Southend, but then again there’s a good chance that Daniel Kanu will return.
The game will be played between Friday, November 1st and Monday, November 4th.
Sadly i have no memories of 1972’s 0 5 thrashing. I was aged 9 at the time, so i guess i had a lot on….
