Deadline day passes without a whimper

I don’t know if there has ever been a transfer deadline day where we haven’t seen one player leave or join.

I’m not knocking it as it was such a pleasant change to do our business early, seven of the nine new signings joining the pre-season tour that began on July 7th.

Since the beginning of the month only Lucas Ness has actually left the club, so it was somewhat surprising that no one else left today whether permanently or on loan.

Nathan Jones has made it obvious that he has too larger a squad, and one or two don’t fit into his plans or framework of a team.

Scott Fraser doesn’t even have a squad number. We were told earlier in the day that the club and Fraser had negotiated a settlement to cancel his contract allowing him to move as a free agent. Dundee were suitors.

That didn’t happen, but the only way he can now move is if he is a free agent, likewise the only way we can add anyone is a player unattached.

Dan Potts is unattached, and possibly he and Fraser are part of the same equation.

Strange day, but actually quite enjoyable to not have to see us make late night panic signings. Of course that still happened elsewhere.

Presumably having agreed to rip up his contract they are still haggling on the severance terms. In a few days it’ll happen and he’ll be a free agent and can sign for Dundee. I get that he’s being asked to walk away from a relatively well paid contract to one at significantly less money but footballing wise he runs the risk of being left under-prepared for the season when he does sign.

Ipswich have just done the same with Freddie Ladapo, only he’s now an actual free agent.

Elsewhere I expected a couple of players to go out on loan – DK, Nathan Asiimwe and Terry Taylor at least. We now have the big squad that NJ didn’t want and as we are out of the league cup we only have the BSM Trophy to give these players some first team action.

Yes, I just posted on The International site in F/B and yes after reading CA post forgot about this Potts situation and was stating the same thing.
Good riddance Frazer and when he first came in big things were expected and TBF he did well for one season but frankly after that did not do much at all and that is being kind to him and on a very good contract.

I did make a post a while ago on one of the sites in our Premiership days we could attract so many wonderful players from Ipswich and Holland, Bent and HH just 3 ,

A shame Frazer and a few others from Ipswich the loanees were very poor indeed and we await this new no 9 to score but to be fair by all accounts leads the press but still think he needs to score and use his height and not knocking him but he does need to settle.
Jones has many options available to him and yes young Leaburn to come back in and just hope his form comes back.

Well done Nathan Jones and we all hope these were all his own signings and it must be surely is the case as he might have walked.
He has indeed been backed by this current Board so far and he has thanked the supporters and it will be very interesting if more supporters going to come back in again.

COYR lets keep this run going but suspect it might be 1 – 1 today but of course a win would be nice but we all know we will drop points sometime and lose and how they bounce back but hey ho it might be December before we possibly lose one match!!!

The loan window is only open to the non-league, no?

Asiimwe was injured in the recent U21 game so may not get a loan until January, unless he goes non league. Taylor could go non league as well to get some playing time. Kanu may be kept as cover until Leaburn and Dixon are considered fit for first team duty. He will probably go on loan in the new year unless he overtakes Ahadme in the pecking order

I think players such as Campbell, Anderson, Kanu, Dixon and Zach Michell who are all under 21 are not considered in the main squad . Can somebody clarify?

That is correct. This is the rule:

League’s One and Two can have a 22-man squad which must include at least eight homegrown players but it doesn’t have to include goalkeepers or anyone under the age of 21.

I was just reflecting that our recent transfers from Ipswich have not gone well. Fraser, Camara, Ladapo and now Ahadme have failed to impress. Maybe Ahadme will come into his own if played as second striker with Aneke or Leaburn as he does not have the physical presence of a number 9.

If we include loanees both in and out then this window has closed with 19 players departing and 9 coming in. I would say that 10 fewer players is a pretty effective culling of the playing staff. Yes, we probable have a bit more quality overall but I reckon come Christmas (or well before) the size of the squad could be a problem. Hopefully we will keep most players fit and it won’t be a problem.
