Campbell joins. Busy week expected
The final week of the summer transfer window started well for Nathan Jones as his old compatriot Allan Campbell signed from Luton Town on loan for the season.
Campbell played 43 times in Luton’s promotion to the Premier League, which was began by Jones and finished off by Rob Edwards two season’s ago.
Despite playing more games than most in Luton’s promoted squad, Campbell was sent out on loan to Millwall at the beginning of their Premier League camapign a year ago.
Signed by Gary Rowett who made him a regular in the Lions’ midfield, he was phased out by the out of his depth Joe Edwards, whose tippy-tappy style saw our neighbours hurtle towards relegation. By the time Neil Harris rescued them, Campbell was suffering the effects of a couple of long injuries lay-off’s and didn’t get any game time.
Millwall fans will denounce Campbell, but they were a mess last season until Harris got hold of them.
Campbell sounds another that will run through brick walls and looks to cover most possibilities in midfield and adds depth to the squad. The Scot is 26 and in the final year of his Luton contract. He’s played over 260 games in the Scottish Premier League and The Championship.
The club are working hard to move Scott Fraser on, and I suspect Terry Taylor will also leave this week. There’s possibilities still over a goalkeeper, a centre-half and possibly another midfielder coming in.
I expect a couple of players to go out on loan too, and one could be Dan Kanu.
It is going to be a busy week.

Welcome to Allan Campbell, this looks another getting the gang back together signing by Nathan Jones and good back up for Conor Coventry and Greg Docherty, but it still leaves us short of a creative midfielder.
Is Dan Potts still with the club?
If he’s anywhere near as good as our original Alan Campbell in the late 60’s early 70’s, that will do for me !!
We’ve had a lot of Campbell’s. Could we name an XI..
I think that may just be out of reach…Lol
Agree CA but lets hope Campbell doesn’t get any more injuries, he had three at Millwall, as we can’t afford another Aneke who can only play max of 20 minutes every game, when he’s not out injured! Plus he must be well short of match fitness so that will be a month or so before he’s up to Jone’s fitness standard!
Though I hope they keep Kanu as much rather see Ahadme, (unless he suddenly drastically improves) loaned out instead of Kanu, who has played reasonably well when actually given some game time in the team by Jone’s, plus he also does have shots on goal and does score!
Being of a certain age I remember well the last Alan Campbell who played for us 🤣
A little before my time. I remember David Campbell (late 70’s).
Alan Campbell was a Scottish midfielder that played for us from 1965-1971. I seem to remember him being quite a decent player ! Hopefully the new one will be even better.
