TV coverage teething problems

I heard that Charlton’s Sky Sports Plus coverage stopped just before the end of normal time on Saturday, which must have left viewers a little anxious.

I think Soccer Saturday went to our game just once, that after the goal, preferring to concentrate on Birmingham and Wrexham.

I watched Charlton TV’s new streamlined coverage, which started off with what appeared to have the lads commentating from a cupboard under the stand but it did improve, but it was hardly crystal clear and a fraction of a second behind the pictures.

Terry Smith and Peter Shirtliff explained after that they had to rely solely on Sky for the game and that brought with it a new range of technical and operational procedures that didn’t appear particularly helpful. Some of the camera angles weren’t particularly practical either.

I do wonder how thinly spread Sky are covering all of these games, but I’m sure Sky Sports Plus will get better and Charlton TV and other clubs will sync their own coverage more sweetly.

I am already missing the swanky matchday CATV coverage that we got spoilt with, whether it was Scott or Charlotte and whoever was in the studio, this won’t be the same watching select highlights and adverts during the break and just Terry and Greg having a chat.

Charlton didn’t feel the need to reduce the subscription fee for their TV coverage even though it is a fragment of the product, but hey I still get to watch the games, but I’m interested to see how Sky Sports Plus develops, and how CATV adapts.

I was one of those left in the lurch by Sky, all’s well in the end though. I switched over to the BBC website and followed the rest of the match by text.

I also thought the Sky commentator was poor, he barely knew seemed to know anything about the two teams either and there were too many pauses and repeating of banal information “Charlton player clears the ball upfield”. I suppose we’ve got spoilt by having both match commentators and the team in the studio with a wealth of knowledge about the club and the division. Still it’s match one for Sky – but they need to up their game.

And yes I like Charlotte and Scottie and also our hero Shirtliffe but just my opinion Terry Smith and Greg Stubley not that good and particularly the former who thinks he is the only Charlton follower and I say follower as not a supporter as he does not pay to get in home and away but enjoys the free hospitality and so on and then tells us they do it voluntary!!
If too much fo not do this then and the former is ver very stale indeed.

Some have personal it seems lifetime vendettas and pathetically block proper and genuine people and supporters who have had 7 or 8 proper decades of supporting this club.
Great result and Wigan will be up there at the end pf the season and CAFC IMHO will fall just short.
Hopefully not though but it is the hope that kills doesn’t it?
COYR go about it quietly and not like some others.
      Cheers

I found to my cost that my SkyHD+ box did not allow me to play the optional games so unable to watch the game. Although did catch the highlights programme.

Sky’s coverage was simply awfull i paid a one day pass for £15. They didnt even put out the line ups. Since both teams had new players and squad numbers this made identifying the players rather difficult especially when the camera appeared to be filming from the moon. The commentator was probably working from home and way behind the game. A black out with ten minutes to go topped it up. Can only get better

Bit of a disaster. I think Sky have spread themselves too thin, just in an effort to dominate. I suppose for some clubs this is a nice upgrade, but it won’t be a patch on CATV.
