Down Mexico way

We are in Miami tonight prepping for an early flight to Mexico in the morning. Prepping by being sat in a hotel bar drinking martini’s and picking at a bowl of olives🫒.

A customary Chicago Addick family last minute booker, we are going to spend a week in Riviera Maya, on Mexico’s northeastern Yucatán coastline.

We were last there in 2010, when our daughter was not even a year old, and it was so brutally hot we cast ourselves as the worst parents ever. Yet, we are going back hoping the years in Bermuda and Florida since has made our skin leathery enough just for some factor 30.

The Riviera Maya is a compound of the historic and the hen party as Cancun to the north is America’s version of Benidorm and Tulum to the south is an open-air museum showcasing the ruined temples of the Mayans.

In between is a 80-mile corridor of hotel resorts and white beaches and a haven for large all-inclusive hotels. We are more at the northern end about 40 minutes from Cancun airport near what was, last time we were there anyway, the pretty fishing village of Puerto Morelos which has a leaning lighthouse (photo).

It has been a long summer with very little time to put our feet up, so that is the goal of this week down Mexico way.
