Connor Wickham signs on short term deal
My first thoughts are that is probably Chuks done for the season or at least a big chunk of what is left.
I can’t see what other reason we’d sign Connor Wickham although he apparently has been training with the club for the past two weeks.
Nathan Jones does like a big target man and with Chuks sadly unreliable and Miles Leaburn out, Wickham joins until the end of the season.
In 16 years Wickham has played less than 300 games in all competitions, he spent 6 seasons at Palace but was never able to recreate his start in the game when he excelled as a youngster at Ipswich and earned a move to then Premier League Sunderland aged just 18.
He played for England from U16 through to the U21’s and scored the winner in the 2010 UEFA U17 Championship.
He is still only 30 and was last at Cardiff City and played his last game in their final game of the season.
If Jones is looking for a disruptor for the final 15 minutes of a game then perhaps Wickham is it. Ever hopeful that the Chuks assumptions are inaccurate and I can’t really see a downside to Wickham coming in for the rest of the season.

He has to be plus…..
Maybe he is a replacement for Lapado, who to be honest has done very liitle since coming here, apart from his one goal!
An Aneke must go but he has one more year on contract but who would but him. Only CAFC sis when Bow’s at Brum was stated Why not make a bi for him and we paid 300k and he has loved his own treatment room and yes another injury-prone player and other clubs have had them IE on Darren Anderton of Spues
Chuks is obviously crocked, yet again. It’s time for the club to terminate his contract and leave him to retire.
Yes some players very unlucky but stealimg a living and how many games has he played. He has to go,
Agree they should have done that ages ago. Plus would love to know who actually at Charlton advised & recommended to get him back from Birmingham, believe it was a Mr Gallen, let alone pay £300,000 for his non services, when all along and previously at Charlton he has been constantly injury prone? Birmingham & Bowyer must have been laughing their socks off that Charlton paid money for a player they wanted to get off their books ASAP!
Buy him in my post but no doubt he will bng them in if he gets another club???
bang then i sorry was trying to find the amend button and not very confident on today’s game against Carlisle and they have absolutely nothing to lose and can play with no pressure and a huge support expected.
COYR
Should be good for both parties – the player is only 30 and has plenty of football left in his career. We get to look at a player who could sign a longer deal if he impresses, he has a few games to earn that contract.
He seems to fit Nathan Jones’ criteria of a big physical centre forward who can create a bit of nuisance in opponent’s penalty boxes.
Wickham’s arrival probably indicative of Chuks’s unavailability and indicative of what NJ thinks of Freddie Ladapo – pretty much confirmed by FL’s non performance from the bench on Saturday
Chuks’s desperate frailty is Ladapo’s opportunity to make himself indispensible for Charlton now and make a bid for a job for next season. Sadly FL is too cynical/lazy/stupid to take this opportunity preferring to mop up the easy money and loaf into the end of the season being no bloody use to us at all – berk
Hugely disappointing Ladapo has been hasn’t he.
