Dobbo farce
More farce down at Charlton today played out for all to see.
George Dobson was about to jump on a plane in the morning to have a medical, sign his contract and have his photo taken as Hungarian side Fehervar’s new transfer deadline signing.
However, this afternoon according to Fehervar, Charlton did a u-turn and have cancelled to deal insisting that the club captain stay until the end of the season, when he will leave for Hungary on a pre-agreed contract.
Good word has it that Andy Scott’s contract offer to Dobson was garbage, which had made Dobson’s mind up to leave, and pissed off a couple of senior players at how he was treated. Dobson’s salary had been far surpassed by many of the new players joining in the past couple of calamitous transfer windows.
We’ll leave the slightly odd decision to move his young family to Szekesfehervar in Hungary out of this conversation, but Charlton were promised a fee of around £100,000 but now will get nothing.
We will get George Dobson back for the relegation run-in, which as long as he plays for Nathan Jones and the fans and not Andy Scott and the board, I think we will see an up-for-it Dobbo.
Scott had already signed Bakinson and Coventry in Dobson’s position and you can’t tell me Coventry was cheap, albeit he has played thus far like a poor-man’s Dobbo without the tackling bite.
All we had been told previously by the club was that he had a sore calf. Nathan Jones intriguingly said that he was still injured. Was that a barefaced lie or scheming from the new manager?
It looks to me that Jones had told Scott, probably after yesterday’s performance, that he needs him and his battling qualities and went over Scott’s head to stop the move, which has obviously greatly annoyed Fehervar, who put out this press release this afternoon.
Nothing from Charlton off course. Communication like losing every week, culture and recruitment all in the slide deck for greater improvement. Hilarious, and where does this leave the smug Andy Scott?
Dobbo possibly won’t win you a title, but he will win you a battle, and that is what we are in.
We have become a laughing stock in the football World.
Just stop and seriously examine they way Dobbo and his family have been treated. I understand his wife and kids are already in Hungary waiting to see him on Monday !!!!
Dobbo must be livid with the SMT who again have dug a deeper hole for themselves.
It will be hard to motivate him now and knowing him he will blank clueless SMT and play for Nathan,his team mates and above all the fans.
We know he’s off in July still and SMT need to be sacked by the owners and go now !!!!!
I’m embarrassed by the circus we have in place that’s full of clowns we thought we had got rid of in the past!!!
Dobbo should NEVER NEVER have to leave the Club…He needed a decent contract and money comparable to others in the squad.
Scott and the management should have recognised his talent and value.

He got a very good offer two weeks ago .. if the club wanted to get rid why are still offering him new contracts and why have we agreed for him to stay for him to rethink again ,when we could sell him
Now for money that’s not a club who forcing him out don’t believe the rubbish that’s being written
We need him, it’s just a shame that we will be losing him in the future cos of a foolish man.
I don’t think it’s a bare faced lie, just an easy way of avoiding the reality and stupidity of Dobson’s situation, until Jones could assess the lay of the land.
I would imagine Jones has sounded Dobbo out and if he’d still be up for the fight to preserve our L1 status, I’m assuming the answer was yes, which forced Jones to confront Scott.
Hopefully we’ll reap the reward, if only till the end of the season.
At last some sense and it must have come from Jones, who probably told Scott, we are right in the s..t and we need Dobson if we are going to get out of this!
Let’s pray & hope if we do, Dobson helps to save us, Scott is kicked out out by the owners, Jones persudes Dobson to stay and he is offered a new decent contract and we get rid of all the crap & unfit players Scott has brought and at last get good some decent players in for the start of next season. Oh well I can only dream!

The owners need to get shot of Scott who we never see or hear from, avoiding fans.
Jones has made it clear that he needs Dobbo to help get out of the s**t we are now in.
Dobbo must be steaming but will Im sure play for the manager,teammates and fans as his heart is with Charlton and NOT with the SMT clowns.
I hope that the owners will ignore Scott and make him a decent offer and contract….he is still the future of the club.

Not true his family are not over there .. this mess has been caused Dobson he was offered 2 year deal with option of another year but he wants a straight three ..his dad said he does not want to go and money no object not interested in more money . He not received one offer from any club in this country .. now he struck ? dragging it out as backfired on him .
So you know everything about his contract and you also know his Dad! So come on come clean, own up who you are Methen or Rodwell, or maybe Scott himself, trying to deflect this whole debarcle onto Dobson? 🙂

Straight away Coventry can pass a ball that’s why Dobson will never be anything more then a league one player .. Coventry will play at a much higher level .. did Dobson not just play in 11 games that we did not win so where is miracle player that’s going to blast us into the play offs ..
First things first Jones said Dobson was at the training ground and his family was not in hungery … once again people believing anything they read , CM as everyone been told many times he does not have any dealings with day to day running of the club , he was hired to put the group together and given 5% as a thank you he as no control over anything .. Scott did not bring in Fioini Bakinson or Coventry all these were wanted by Appleton , that’s why Appleton went to Coventry house to talk him into joining us as Jones said there offers on the table but it’s completely down to Dobson no one else ..

Wow Sammy according to your comments you know everything about what goes on at Charlton! Who gets paid what amount of money, who is really pulling the strings, the transfers, who has what shares, which players are bought in by who, knowing the parents of the players etc etc. That is totally why I don’t believe everything I read!!! Of course, unless you are the Janitor &/or toilet attendant, then it all makes sense! 🙂
Given our current position, I’m just trying to grasp onto the bit of good news within this mess, and that is Dobson is staying at least until the end of the season. Had he have left for Hungary now, then it would have been fair to say that this transfer window had actually seen us worse off again. You can’t keep moving on your best players(yes, I accept that their contracts are running down and we risk losing them for nothing), without having replacements lined up who are are as good as those leaving, or at least fit and ready to play. This short-sighted policy is at the heart of much of our transfer business in the last few years, and why we keep sinking further into the s**t…

Psychologically difficult for George all this. On many levels he would have cut his attachments to us and was already on the plane. I’ve no doubt he’ll want to give it everything for us if or when he gets a start. But it’s not going to be easy to lift himself and he’ll really need the backing of supporters in the stadium. I hope for both our sakes he can do it.
Claiming a seat refund from Easy-Jet will be as much aggro as helping us stay up ….lol
I am glad the club have decided to forego the loan fee, showing that at least someone really does know how much we need Dobbo’s commitment, determination and ability. Surely we can put together a decent contract for him and yes, make it for 3 years with the salary a man who has been voted player of the year and has continued to bust a gut for the cause deserves? Could CAST organise an online fan poll about this, not to convince the club which has already taken the risky decision to enforce his current contract, but to show George that we want him to stay and carry on doing what he has done ever since he signed for us?
Strange that Dobbo who’s been outstanding over the last few years has only received what I presume is a significantly better contract offer from an Hungarian club, who are third in their division. I could see him in the Championship at least and expected him to get a few offers. If the rumours that we have only offered him a relatively low increase are true then maybe that’s why?
If he’s staying then I hope he gets a regular start – we need his mopping up skills at DM but will his mind be on the job?
