Uche Ikpeazu
Stories doing the rounds that we have ‘won the race’ for Port Vale’s 6ft 3 striker Uche Ikpeazu.
If true I think on this signing you have to look beyond his goalscoring record and remind ourselves of how Ikpeazu battered us up at Port Vale.
Another 20+ goal scorer would be lovely, and there is a bid on the table for one, but the plan should always have been since July when Miles got injured, to provide a powerful foil for Alfie May and in Uche Ikpeazu we might have found one.
The 28-year has been quite the journeyman and has played over 300 games after starting his career at Watford. Harrow born Uche came through Reading’s youth academy.
That goal against us is the only goal he has scored this season, but he could provide a focal point for the team as Michael Appleton moves away from playing three up top.
Uche is said to have an infectious personality, appears popular whereever he has played and is also a close friend of Chuks Aneke. Remember him?

Who Aneke that bodes well, as if
Chuks only scored one goal when he came back from injury, but look at the difference he made to the team. I think this would be a good signing.
We have done some good business in this window, difficult though January is.
I’m slightly underwhelmed with this one. However, I think you are correct in your assessment, look beyond the goals. This chap might just give us the fulcrum that we have lacked.
I think that it might be advisable to stop now, and keep any remaining powder dry until the summer.
You have to feel underwhelmed signing a player from Port Vale.
However, as a stop gap, if it assists May to get the goals needed to keep us up, I’m OK with it.
Not the goal scorer I want to sign, but we need a physical, tall target man who can hold the ball up, make a nuisance of himself etc.
