Welcome to Macaulay Gillesphey, a left footed centre-back signed from Plymouth Argyle for what is believed to be a six-figure sum. The Geordie has signed a contract until 2026.
Born in Northumberland and a Newcastle junior the 28-year old was playing for Robbie Fowler in Brisbane, Australia until Plymouth brought him back to the UK in 2021. Prior to his time in Australia he played 93 games for Carlisle United.
Gillesphey played almost every league game for Plymouth in the 2021/22 season when they just missed out on the play-off’s but then last season impressed again when he helped the Pilgrims to promotion.
He had a groin operation during the summer which delayed his introduction into the team in Argyle’s first Championship season for 13 years.
Since his return the defender has found his first team opportunities limited.
From what I’ve read we should expect a player comfortable with the ball at his feet and good in the air. Rarely gets booked, which is an interesting stat.
