Alligator Alley

After a boys weekend in Miami Beach I am driving back to Sarasota this morning, 229 miles in total from coast to coast of South Florida.

The trip had been long planned and although I was questioning myself on Friday afternoon when I did the reverse of this drive, it was fun and typically we ate very well.

The drive is boring, no two ways about it. Once out of the bottleneck of Miami you drive straight across state on Alligator Alley, and then the dullest and longest part of the drive is the northward swing on I-75 from Naples to Sarasota.

Alligator Alley is an iconic 80-mile interstate road that runs across the south of Florida and through the Everglades and connects Fort Lauderdale and Naples.

Two lanes running each way with alligators living in the vast expanse of marshland either side. The road has existed since the 1960’s and only recently did a service station appear in the middle allowing you to fill up with petrol and grab a sandwich.

This is possibly the most famous and linear road to drive in Florida, but there is the enduring hope that you will spot an alligator sunbathing on the side of the road or if you are really lucky a Florida panther staring you down as you fly by at 80 mph.

In recent decades bridges and culverts designed to let water and wildlife pass underneath the roadway and permit the natural flow of the Everglades has vastly improved the environment impact and the safety to animals and cars.

Did you spot any square groupers? A route used for many purposes from the 70s onwards….

Makes my drive up the M2 on a matchday sooooo boring compared to your journey.
All I see is the HS trains, fields of cabbages, and The Sun in the Sands pub….but a great view of London from Charlton village.

Another Bullshiter and boy have CAFC have had some and him and Gobby Robinson have never ever one ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.
Oh nearly forgot they both got Lincoln and Oxford to the play-offs.
Did anyone notice Gobbo got sent off on his first match at Salford on the bottom league on 15 minutes and saw it and what he hell was he thinking?
However, though they have not won one thing at least Gobbo has a bit of personality and passion about him but both ful of bullshite and literally stealing a living like most of the primadoonas players at CAFC

JW, tell it as it is, spot on.
Like him or loathe him, at least Robinson showed some passion.
This richardhead has nowt and dislike him with a passion.
And Scott clearly does not have the best interests of the club in mind but jobs for the boys eh.
    Complete bunch of tossers.
