CBT & Dobbo
Lots more chatter around the January transfer window yesterday from Andy Scott. I do agree with him that January is a very tough window to trade in, but it will be interesting to see who the club can entice and how much real financial support they get from the new owners.
January will be a tell-tale month in many ways.
New signings are the unknown but the tried and tested are two existing players – Corey Blackett Taylor and George Dobson.
Both of them will be under scrutiny more than most these next few weeks. Both out of contract in the summer, both with new offers on the table unsigned and both with suitors for a January move.
Scott says that agents of both players are prepared to wait out January to see what happens, both from an external interest and also to see if the club bring in players that will allow a second half of the season play-off push.
A challenge at the top of the table which will need both Dobbo and CBT at the top of their game will only elevate their own value, although negatively for the club they can walk out of the door for nothing in the summer.
Body language has been interesting recently. George hasn’t been quite himself but tired not of the club but of doing everybody’s running. Frustrated too like the entire fanbase that this season looks like ending up as the past two.
CBT blows hot and cold, when he’s hot he is a game changer, when he is cold he is stood shivering out on the touch line detached from play. Still, it is his style, and if he could cross a ball accurately most of the time he wouldn’t even be in L1.
Dobbo wants Championship football, but I feel he wants it with Charlton. CBT also sees a way to the Championship, but a move propelling him there might be a quicker and more lucrative way. Noticeably CBT took time to punch his chest to the gathered Addicks’ fans at Barnsley last Saturday after he scored.
Both players were rescued from careers going nowhere. CBT didn’t even have a club when he was offered a trial in SE7. Dobbo was out in the cold at Sunderland a long way from home.
Nigel Adkins was the man at the helm when they both signed and unusually in recent times CBT and Dobbo have been diamonds in the SE7 rough and the two of them should feel a sense of gratitude. Both have watched though as the club have moved along manager’s and trod water with teammates not being up to it.
Whatever happens if this club is to go anywhere we need to keep them both, at least until the summer but don’t be surprised if one or the pair of them get cashed in.
In other news James Abankwah has had his loan terminated.
I guess it’s not totally in our own hands. If either or both decide that are better off elsewhere then there’s not a lot we can do about it. But please wait until the summer. Totally unthinkable that we will let them go in January. Any belief that we have any ambition will leave The Valley with them if they go.
I’m of the opinion if we can get a fee for CBT and get a replacement in. I’d let him go. As said, he has good games but he has far more bad games.
I hope Dobbo stays.
I hope Tedic’s loan ends. But we’ll need a new forward for sure.

Certainly an interesting one , I tend to feel if a player doesn’t want to sign a new contract after a few offers , then let them go.
Will CBT & Dobbo be fully committed in the last half of the season? Are they more interested in remaining injury free to get a new contract elsewhere in the summer?
CBT blows hot n cold for me, but then if he wasn’t then he would be at a higher level. Dobbo’s running and passing levels could fit well at a higher level with the right club.
I have no problem with players wanting to play at a higher levels and being financially better off. It’s a short career, which could end in one game . If they do go then it’s key we get similar players in . Can we do that in particular difficult transfer window.. is my concern. These players will probably have big transfer fees.. loans have been our recent answer, but January loans have rarely worked out well for us.

Ultimately, with very few exceptions, players are just mercenaries chasing the top dollar.
You can’t blame them, can you? The club has shown little ambition for a number of seasons now.
Of course we all hope this will change in the upcoming January transfer window but we’ve hoped for that for what seems like an eternity.
I think if good signings come in that can make a difference, then that may encourage them to put pen to paper, fingers crossed 🤞
