Anthony Hayes leaves Charlton

It was 2016 when the Irishman first appeared at Sparrows Lane helping develop the U12-U15 teams, and since Anthony Hayes has done pretty much everything except for driving the bus (he probably did that as well).

Hayes had an interesting route to where he is now, and is an effective coach and a decent man, so a sad day then as the club have announced that Hayes has left Charlton and will be seeking new opportunities.

I hope but suspect that Hayes has impressed a lot of senior figures in the game and that his wait for the next opportunity won’t be too long.

Brighton in the cup is a rare fond recent Addicks memory, so thanks for that Anthony, and I wish you all the best for the future.

Totally agree with your thoughts on Anthony, a decent guy who had a great influence at Charlton and I sincerely thank him for his work and friendship.
It’s been evident that he was being shoved- out a while ago by SMT and I’m confident he will get CA new position very quickly.
Why do we continue to lose people who are a + for us ?
Remember he agreed to manage the team twice with Jason and steadied a very rocky boat…..what price loyalty ?

All the best to him and I’m sure he won’t be out of work for long. Prior to Charlton he was at Brentford and moved on when they closed their Academy set up so he has a lot of coaching experience in his CV.

It seems we are re-evaluating our coaching, playing a bit of devil’s advocate here, but maybe his moving on isn’t a bad thing for the club? We’ve been stuck in this division for too long and I see a lot of repetitive mistakes cropping up, our defence in particular has been too porous and for too long and the strategy of hitting it long (without any obvious success) had to have come from somewhere. Appleton clearly has his views on what he wants our coaching to look like and it seems that doesn’t include Anthony Hayes.
