Holiday romance

It was like a holiday romance Dean.

You bounced into my life probably at the end of a late boozy Christmas night and there you were saying all the right things, whispering sweet nothings of how you understood me and that we could make a real go of it. Even though we didn’t speak the same and were from different places we found common ground.

You would inspire me with your words, fill me with hope and dreams and you would stand your round in the pub buying drinks for me and my friends.

And then as quick as you appeared, you vanished. The tone had changed, stuff wasn’t as much fun or free anymore. Things were forced, we didn’t now appear to have the same ideals, and outsiders had got in the way.

It’s was nice knowing you Dean. There was a real bond, and I would well up at what you and your family had been through. I feel like we invested a lot in a short time. Yet, it is probably right that we move on with our own lives.

I wish you only the best, Dean.

Take care, CA.

I feel the same. We seemed a good match at the start and I so wanted success under a new, young manager who seemed a decent bloke (if a bit Adkins 2.0) Whether it was lack of investment, behind the scenes politics or if he’d reached the end if his ability Oxford was bizarre. Sad to see him go.
At some point our luck has to change.
On to the next in this awful cycle: owners invest just about enough to stay in the division, but not enough to get out of it, crowds fall as optimism fades, we lose 1m p.a, run through a couple of managers and then the owners move on blaming the fans. Someone has to break it by really investing in the side otherwise it’s round we go again.

Same old Charlton, blame the Manager for the club’s shortcomings. No doubt Charlie’s already got one of his “mates” who will get shoe-horned effortlessly into the job and no doubt they will buy or loan a new player to pacify upset fans. The Gravy Train rumbles on but a lot of us supporters are heartily sick of it.

    Echo everything you say CA.
A genuine and inspirational manager who has been badly let down by the owners.
Only 5 games into a new season and coped with too many injuries trying to field a side twice a week.
How can Rodwell,Methven and the owners make a rational judgement like this….definately a knee-jerk action.
I personally knew Dean and he changed the mentality of players and indeed staff.
Now we wallow in uncertainty again with a rudderless ship hitting the rocks very soon.
All the best Dean and I for one admired your tenure and you will get a better role in due course.

I think he will find it very hard to find a better job. He might have motivated the staff and the vibe was certainly much improved at the start of the season, but the players certainly weren’t motivated and indeed didn’t seem to respect him. Tactics were poor, fitness was poor and we got the results we deserved.

I’ve just learnt that Dean was sacked by text !!!
Seems to follow a familiar past pattern.
    Total disrespect,cowardly and unprofessional again.
What the hell Charlton…..lack of class !!

Check out Albury Addicks Post about the proposed men’s and ladies merger….
Methven should be ashamed of his comment at the end of the article…why oh why have we been dumped with him…idiot at Sunderland and not improved !!!

While the buck always stops at the Managers door 🚪 it really should go higher than that because those decision makers since relegation from the Premier League have got it so badly wrong.

Obviously money is a big factor in choosing a new manager and their backroom staff but nobody who we might assume would be well positioned in terms of football experience have shown a complete lack of judgement in finding the right candidate for the job.

Again, it’s never that simplistic or certainly not in our case and I’m seriously concerned there’s no evidence to suggest that they may get it right this time or anytime soon!

Right now I’m an embarrassed Charlton fan. Our club is a joke and has been for several years – ESI (both variants), Thomas Sandgaard and now a new consortium that promised much but left a manager, who after all was their man, with a threadbare squad, a situation made worse by a rash of injuries.

We now have four days to get a new several new players in, ship several others out while finding a new manager. Some of the players we did sign are not fully fit, hampering Dean Holden even further. Yet he has to take the blame?

This isn’t to say that Dean Holden was perfect and I moaned often enough about the need to get a defensive coach in but six matches into the season is an utter joke especially when we’ve got just one fit senior striker in the house.
