Mandela is free
I quite liked what I saw and heard of Manny Egbo but he has been moved on by Dean Holden and will join his old mentor Ben Garner at Colchester.
I assume Egbo wasn’t happy playing second fiddle and Holden thinks Nathan Asiimwe is the new Trent Alexander Arnold after a couple of hours of men’s football.
Don’t get me wrong but I like what I see of Asiimwe, but with Richard Chin injured that leaves the 18-year as the only right back at the club.
Hopefully a new right wing back is on the cards. Good luck Manny in your future endeavours.

Egbo’s departure means that 15 senior players have exited in this window. Just 6 have come in meaning we are minus 9 players on where we were just 6 weeks ago.
Build in the injuries we have and you have to face the fact that we are in trouble. You have to have some sympathy for DH…how can he be expected to produce results in these circumstances?
I just cannot see this situation changing much before the end of the window….I do hope the SMT prove me wrong! But I doubt that they will.
As you know I was never a fan of Egbo, but firmly in favour of Asiimwe. Asiimwe is still only 18 and should not be expected to play every game at this stage of his career, so we need to recruit cover. I understand that Dabo is training with us, I thought he failed a medical a few weeks ago but he would be a good signing if his fitness is now OK.
I worry about our coaching of young strikers, it is obvious to me that Kanu should be used as second striker and yet he is played down the middle when in the U21s.When CAFC played against Barnsley in the U18s end of season playoff semi final, 18 months ago Kanu was played as a no.9 and didn’t have a kick until Leaburn came on with 20 minutes to go when we were 2-0 down, after about 4 minutes Leaburn created space ands Kanu scored, soon after Huke scored and in overtime Asiimwe headed home a Bower corner. The same thing is happening to Casey in the U21s this season, who is obviously a striker but not a CF.
May is saddled with this mentality in the first team, where a defender should be deployed as a temporary CF until we recruit 2 more strikers (not one)I would suggest Thomas who has pace and is able to jump well and should keep the opponents central defenders busy and create space for team mates.
Fankaty Dabo is rumoured to be on his way to SE7 having been released by Coventry.
Rumours have also suggested that we looked at him earlier in the window but he failed a fitness test.
As for Mandela Egbo, he seemed a nice guy with a bright and bubbly personality but two lengthy injuries mean we never really saw much of him. Good luck to him. Ben Garner brought him to Charlton and the news release suggests we got a small fee for him.
