One man and his dog. A road trip. Part III
We made it.
Around about 5.15pm tonight I pulled my gigantic American gas-guzzler onto the drive of our Sarasota home with the pup in the back.
Three days, 1,290 miles and nine states.
The last hour of the journey was the toughest, hitting some Friday early evening traffic as we drove down the I-75 to Sarasota. My eyes were stinging and my right leg was numb (automatic car, see).
We did enjoy our last evening in Savannah, GA. We took a good hour walk around the historic cobblestone streets, walked close to the river, although not down to it as that involved stairs (see Parts I and II), bypassed a live film set, and as the evening drew in strolled around beautiful squares surrounded by stunning homes.
I think Charleston edges it for me, but still, I’d like to go back to Savannah, maybe dog-less to dig deeper into what it’s varying districts can offer.
I ate well in Pacci, the Brice Kimpton restaurant, and the hotel staff were excellent. There were also plenty of dogs belonging seemingly to a lot of older wealthy looking ladies.
Today we drove for 9 hours, pretty drama-less and boring. Across the state line and then from Jacksonville across Florida to Lake City and then south past Gainesville and then we stopped just outside of Ocala in the centre of the state.
We got petrol and Haribo and I parked in a Motel 6 car park to walk Rolo and encourage a wee. We looked around the motel and honestly could not decide whether it was derelict or occupied!
The last couple of hours dragged but his face was a picture when he saw my waiting-other-half and daughter. Even I got a hug!
He’s sleeping in his new bed now, probably dreaming of car journeys.

Three days, 1,290 miles, and nine states is about the most American thing you can do. You haven’t really seen the US until you’ve done a Road Trip. Well done.
Haha. Thanks. We almost turned right at Savannah and headed west!!
Another excellent read – glad you’ve all made it safely. Enjoy the game today. ❤
I hope you didn’t forget Rolo’s bowl, it’s a long round trip to get it. Best of luck in your new home. I’m soon to be on my way to the Valley with everything crossed, even my eyes
CA Don’t know if this will be posted as I did some others re your trips but none have shown up, appears similar problem to previous!
Anyway will try again, Glad you and Rolo both made the trip safely and no mishaps, you must both be happy to be home. Plus you realise nwo everytime you go out in the car Rolo will want to come with you as he will think he is going on another trip with you! 🙂
I’m going to look into why you can’t post Mike. This one worked oddly
Mike. Not sure you will read this, but I reset my comments and found a load of comments in the ‘binned’ section including many of yours and others. Not sure why they go in there, but I released them all, and will keep an eye on that in the future. Apologies.
Hi CA Hopefully that will have now solved the issue! Good to see you
settling in your new home well and are back to full flow with your
postings!
👍 Thanks Mike.
Reminds me of the Disney film, The Incredible Journey, that I saw as a kid, minus the vehicle.
Glad you made it and you as well, human.
