Steve Gallen leaves

The one constant in the last tumultuous half a decade at The Valley has been Steve Gallen, and that has now come to an end with the OS announcing what we all thought anyway that he has left the club.

Karl Robinson brought in Gallen as Head of Recruitment in April 2017 and worked with six managers and four owners in his time. I am sure he could tell a few stories and would make a great after dinner guest.

With Andy Scott finally get the key to the door, Gallen’s time was up and he will leave with a mixed record of success and failures in the transfer market, albeit there were a few real stand-outs such as Cullen, Gallagher, Taylor and Rak-Sakyi.

He appeared to work best when he had less intrusion, and his partnership with Lee Bowyer yielded one of our best Charlton memories in recent history.

One of football’s good guys, hard working and I suspect he won’t be out of work long.

Yes CA, agreed, one of the good guys. Mutual agreement the statement says. I wonder if that was really the case ?

To be expected really, I thought he might stay on until September as I’m sure there are a few irons in the fire before the transfer window closes. With the new set-up it looked obvious that going forward that Andy Scott was going to be doing his job.

In those few years he did a great job in bringing in some talented youngsters and clearly he has good contacts at the other London clubs and I assume an encyclopedic knowledge of young players and who could fit into out squad and then persuading those clubs to let that talent come to our club. A shame he had to operate while being to spend virtually no money. I’m sure he’ll have a few stories to tell about those that got away because we didn’t want to fork out for a transfer fee or couldn’t afford the wages…

Good luck to him in his next job.

Totally agree. I reckon he will return to QPR in a recruitment role. The timing of his departure is very strange. At least wait until the transfer window closes! All the best to him for the future. I wonder who Andy Scott has lined up to recruit, if any? Likely to be loan signings l suspect.

I do wonder how the 2020 season might have finished without Roland’s damage to the squad (like with Aribo) and the injuires, as they built a rather good team but it took hit after hit. Not sure how close we actually were to Toney but that would have been huge.

    Sad to see him go.

We absolutely would stayed up that season with just the minuscule of investment by RD.
