Farewell Bermuda
Into our last few days now living in Bermuda, and I am trying to take in every sideways glance of the water and the centuries old palmetto and calabash trees that tumble high over the narrow windy roads.
Those thin roads bordered by jagged walls made from quarried coral that hide homes, preserves and lanes behind them.
A snug 20.6 square miles, and only a mile wide at it’s widest point, the view of water whether the harbour, the many sounds that nestle within the main island or the Atlantic crashing around it and beyond the pink beaches, is never far away.
181 islands in fact make up this Atlantic outpost and 9 parishes, measured each exactly 1,500 acres and named after Elizabethan aristocrats, merry gentlemen who had a pursuit of overseas exploration, a bit like myself.
We came for 5 years and we stayed for 15 gained a daughter and a dog on the way plus many wonderful memories. This island is a melting pot of people and senses and it will be missed.

We have lived in three homes, owned two cars and a couple of mopeds. We have sailed, swam, dived, jet-skied, played with humpback whales, and walked and biked and explored every corner of this idyllic isle.
I have worn the shorts and long socks, bought the tee-shirt but still never seen the triangle.
Bermuda is beautiful but like people it hides many insecurities and quirks and is no way perfect. I will miss it though, I will miss living on a postcard and I will doubly miss the many lifelong friends we have made here.

All the best for your lifestyle/location change and particularly the Lab transfer via New York – hope it goes well 🤞. And of course keep up the excellent blogging. #COYR
Many thanks @greenvalleysvc
CA, I know you will really miss your home for 15 years, friends, places, experinces good and bad etc, but another new chapter in your life now awaits and I think from all of us who reguarly read your blogs, we will look forward to hearing about it and of course your regular updates on Charlton! 🙂
I said to you once, that yours is the only blog I have ever followed and contribute to, as you have an excellent way of putting things into words, which makes we look forward to your next posting. You should one day collate all this info together and write a book. “Charlton & My Life Overseas”. I would be one of the first to buy it and I have rarely read any books for ages, but don’t take too long as I may have departed by then! 🙂
Best of Luck to you all in your new venture
Many thanks Mike, much appreciated.
The book is on my ‘to do in retirement list’, which is sadly not quite yet!
All my best wishes for your future adventures and I’m sure more exciting things to explore and enjoy will happen.
One thing you won’t change is your love for Charlton.
Best wishes to all your family and your on the road trip with the dog !
I’m getting ready to pop to the Valley to watch us against Aberdeen on Saturday.
Chris – many thanks. Enjoy the game on Saturday.
Good luck in your new venture from a fellow Addick 🙂
