Carlisle away. In November
That might just be a tad too early to celebrate promotion!
The League One fixtures were spat out today and we begin with our first league local derby for a little while when we host promoted Leyton Orient at The Valley. This is followed by a trip to Peterborough United. Two home games follow against Bristol Rovers and Port Vale.
I have good memories of the O’s, at one time in my youth I think it was the away ground I had been to the most. We played them regularly in the late 70’sand early 80’s. This meeting will be our first in the league since 2012.
Other fixtures that hop out are the games at Derby (14th October), but I think that is an international week, and Pompey away is on November 11th. Both Saturday’s.
The Friday before Christmas we host Burton Albion, Boxing Day is the reverse Leyton Orient fixture and we play at home to Oxford on New Year’s Day.
Reading away is Saturday 10th February, Carlisle at home is Saturday 9th March and we have to travel to Exeter on Good Friday. Easter Monday we host Stevenage.
Our last three games are Cambridge United away, Shrewsbury at home and finally we go to Wycombe.
Excited yet?

If our away trip to Carlisle had been the last match of the season then that would have been a good omen, so to get them in November is a shade disappointing. It was 3rd May 1986 when I drove (along with circa 2,000 addicks) to Carlisle to witness our 3-2 win which saw our return to the top flight after a gap of 29 years.
Coming back to today : the inactivity 9 days into the transfer window I find very worrying. The noises coming from the Valley about seeking a top 6 finish this coming season seem as hollow as Thomas’s predictions when he arrived.
My brother and I took the train up that day. Great memories of an incredible come back!
Agree on the silence. Unfortunately it is no surprise is it.
Carlisle away in November, is not bad for me, living three quarters of the way there in North Yorkshire… Lol……Not happy with the deafening silence and inactivity coming out of the Valley, but I suppose we should be used to it by now. Same old, same old.
The schedule is out! I can barely contain myself. Another season of League One awful football. Do I sign up for Charlton TV?? Thus is the dilemma. I probably will…….what did P. T. Barnum say about “suckers?”
