Joe Wollacott out of World Cup

Unofficial but if true devastating news from African sports journalist Gary Al-Smith that Joe Wollacott has fractured his finger and will miss the World Cup.

I mean we have some dreadful luck with injuries, but this takes the biscuit. Joe was expected to make Ghana’s final 26 and travel to their training camp on Monday.

Joe was freakishly injured in the warm-up yesterday with Craig MacGillivray replacing him just before kick-off. He had recently been Ghana first choice keeper and has won 11 caps. meant to join up with the Ghana World Cup squad on Monday and was freaky injured in the warm up.

Ghana’s other first choice goalkeeper Richard Ofori, who plays for Orlando Pirates has also been confirmed injured. Ghana are in group H with Portugal, Uruguay and South Korea.

Absolutely heartbreaking for Joe 💔

UPDATE: Sadly confirmed by the club.

If true, that is terrible news. Can’t begin to think what Joe must be thinking but I hope he gets full support from the club and all fans. He has done a very good job for us since coming in from Swindon….Let’s hope he makes the next World Cup. All the best Joe.

I really hope that isn’t true he makes mistakes with crosses sometimes but is the best goalie we’ve had for while and kept us in a number of games. My son and I were following the score whilst watching England at Twickenham Saturday afternoon. When my sons phone buzzed with their 3rd goal I said just check who is in goal for us and my fears were confirmed. I hope he can recover quickly from both injury and crushing disappointment if its true.
