Walsall 0 Charlton Athletic 1

Ben Garner didn’t seem too thrilled by this game yesterday, but his youthful team which also included DJ and JFC put the Addicks through to the 3rd Round of this cup for the first time since 2015.
Total credit to the 367 Addicks who made the journey. Their loyalty rewarded after DJ neatly finished in front of them after excellent work by young Leaburn after 57 minutes.
By all accounts a more than useful Walsall under Michael Flynn gave us a good match and it was an entertaining game. Mark Kinsella’s son Liam, who is in his 9th season at The Bescot, came on as a 2nd half sub.
The 3rd Round draw is tomorrow, let’s hope for a good one.
Ben Garner: “Young Lucas Ness had cramp in the last 20 minutes and gritted his teeth and got through it, you need to do that sometimes in your career. I’m really pleased with both full backs Lucas and Richard Chin tonight were both excellent, so I’m really happy for them. Walsall were really good. It was a tough evening’s work but we’re through the to the next round.”
