Amos leaves, MacGillivray in

Ben Amos has signed for Wigan Athletic, who are showing to be one of next season’s biggest L1 spenders.

Amos played 92 games for the Addicks covering two full seasons in 17/18 and 20/21 and although in apparent new contract discussions with Charlton, he has followed Chuks Aneke out of the door and moved elsewhere.

I’m not particularly bothered about Amos as I still aspire to a complete new look team, which looks a bit of a pipe dream I know based on current activity.

Amos did make many crucial saves last season, but for me he was very much part of our defensive problems and not the solution.

It does look as if Charlton will act quickly to replace him with 28-year old Portsmouth player of the year Craig MacGillivray.

UPDATE 07.15: Craig MacGillivray signs a two-year deal.

  1. According to Pompey friend, he,s already passed his medical with us. Amos was not the best that we have ever had, but good luck to him at Wigan.

Craig MacGillivray was Portsmouth’s PotY last season – essentially we are replacing a 31 year old keeper with one three years younger. Hopefully we are going up a level in class as well.

Amos was ok for us, not as good in this second spell as he was when he first came in on-loan a few years back, but then he had a better defence in front of him. His handling was a bit suspect and he dropped a few shots – but made few goal conceding blunders. Good luck to him.

Now that we are getting to the start of July and training is about to begin we should see a lot more activity.
