Charlton Athletic 0 Peterborough United 1

Can we not play away every week? Another home defeat, six wins all season, and just two since before Christmas.
For all of our possession I thought it was clear where the two teams sit in the table. Hard to be too disappointed, we played alright just lacked that bit of quality and final ball in and around their box. They were happy to soak up the pressure, and our set-plays were not like they have been under Adkins. Perhaps we should have saved a goal from Tuesday!
We were slow out of the blocks again, this time conceding, but we worked ourselves back into the game and yet for another missed penalty – that’s three this season – the result might have been very different, although I suspect we may have seen a more progressive performance from Peterborough 2nd half if we had equalized.
Defensively we looked okay and there were less errors at the back, The closest we came was a JFC shot that deflected just the wrong side of the post.
I’m not too sure why Adkins waited so long to put Washington and Aneke on. Stockley was marked the best I have seen since he joined, and it was clear we needed more imagination up front
Posh and Hull are clearly a cut above whilst the rest of the pack battle for the four play-off places. Hate to use this expression but Tuesday is huge. 4 games left.
Nigel Adkins: “They obviously have a goal to defend and they’ve sat back in numbers and defended the goal well. But they’re a team that are going to get promoted, they’re very good in possession, and we’ve dominated the ball. However, it’s about putting it in the back of the net.”

You made exactly the point I would have made if you hadn’t i.e. slow out of the blocks, we got away with it at Plymouth but not today. We are not far off of being a good Div1 side but would need significant strengthening if we got promoted, let’s hope I’m wrong. 8 points from last 4 games should see us in the play-offs.
We got away with it against Ipswich and Sunderland as well.
Agree CA, will be interesting to see how we fair against Crewe, if past performances are to go by at home against teams in the bottom half.
Plus how many times, yet again, did we pass it all the way backwards towards Amos, when we were in their half, rather than take someone on and try to go forward, that seems a trait we seem to do much more in home games, for whatever reason and puts us more under pressure!
So true Mike. I can see why sometimes you have to pull the plug on a move and start again but often a forward pass looks as on as much as a backward one. Bet we did that hardly at all at Plymouth.
You know CA I can’t say I’m that upset. We are simply not good enough – and all this talk of the play offs does nothing for me. Can you imagine if we do go up? Although I hate this division the prospect of just one more season while Adkins re-builds us so that we are actually ready for the 2nd division is a far happier prospect than going up and coming straight back down again. Besides which I need a bit of closure – there are a number of teams that have embarrassed us this season and who we need to slap down a bit before we head off. We will be back in the ground and the re-building of our fanbase can also begin. Well, I can dream can’t I?
LP – it is a dream I have had myself. I love the idea of the slapping down of a few teams and we will have Wayne Rooney’s Derby County and the Massives too. If we can win the league next season, and strut around the country with a jolly away following and a packed and noisy Valley it would be so much more preferable in my mind as well.
