Young centre-half in on loan

A much needed central defender joined the club this morning. Left footed 21-year old Akin Famewo has signed on a season long loan from Norwich City, the second signing for Lee Bowyer and Steve Gallen since Thomas Sandgaard bought the club yesterday.

Famewo was born in Lewisham and was in Luton’s academy from the age of 10. The Hatters sold him to Norwich City during the January 2019 transfer window.

The youngster impressed manager Daniel Farke and was often part of his first team squad last season. He was given a new three and a half year contract before being sent on loan to Scottish Premier League side St Mirren.

After the Scottish season was curtailed early he came back to Norwich and was given his debut as a late substitute against Man City at the Eithad in the Canaries final league game of the season.

Bowyer said: “Akin is someone who naturally can play on that [left] side, who is confident, who can step out and he can play. He can also play left back or left of a three – there is a lot oversatility with him, so he’s another good addition.”

Seems to be a good signing but we still need a right footed central defender to replace Lockyer, Pratley can cover short term but a longer term solution is required. I hope Mingi gets a chance in the cup game on Wednesday against Brighton U21s. Barker has also done well but his size may mean his future is at full back
