Ben Watson first signing in Sandgaard era

SLP fountain of all knowledge Rich Cawley had talked of a banner summer Addicks signing for a number of weeks pre and mid all of the off-field shenanigans. That player is Ben Watson,
With Thomas Sandgaard’s takeover of the club now complete Lee Bowyer said today that he hopes even by Sunday’s kick off he’llbe able to add three players to his squad, with others to follow before the transfer deadline.
The 35-year old midfielder Watson is expected to be the first in the door. Watson was pivotal to Nottingham Forest’s team last season, where they really should have made the play-off’s. Watson started all but one of Forest’s 46 league games and was described by manager Sabri Lamouchi “as probably one of the best midfielders in The Championship. He was my captain, and my brain on the pitch.”
Desperate to get back home to London to be with his family full time Gallen and Bowyer courted Watson early and he has stood by and waited for the Addicks fortunes to change of the pitch.
Watson has played in 450 games at Premier League and Championship level, and represents quite a coup even at 35.
To dampen the spirits a little, today Lee Bowyer said that Alex Gilbey picked up an injury in training and will be out for at least a month.
UPDATE: Official.
I hope the Watson transfer proves positive but he is 35 and although he reads the game well is a positional rather than an high energy player so his companions in midfield will need to put a shift in to compensate.
