I was up early this morning like a lot of Englishmen, women and children west of the Atlantic Ocean to watch more sporting disappointment in a major event. It makes how Ben Stokes and England won the Cricket World Cup even more mysterious.
I’m no rugby expert or particularly a fan, but the Japanese World Cup was captivating and I saw a fair amount of it being an early riser, but it didn’t work out for Eddie Jones and an English team so dominate throughout the 6 weeks of competition. Yet, when it came down to it the wall of South Africa’s defense was insurmountable and they lulled us into their game, which even I knew would only end one way.
Jones will get a lot of credit, although if it was Gareth Southgate he would get battered by the media, but it was a very poor showing when it really mattered.
Anyway congratulations to Siya Kolisi and South Africa, who were tactically astute Bow-like, and massive kudos to Japan, one of my favourite countries, on being fantastic hosts.
