Ben Amos signs

Ben Amos who played 50 games for us during the 2017/18 season has signed on a permanent deal. He has a one-year deal with an option for a further year.

Amos has been at Bolton since 2015 but played 15 games on loan at Millwall last season. Still only 29, Amos has played 126 games over the past four seasons and will provide good competition and motivation to Dillon Phillips.

Steve Gallen said: “We’re really pleased to get Ben back. Behind the scenes all summer, we’ve been pushing it and pushing it – trying to get him back. So now we have our own two goalkeepers at the club, two permanents, two good goalkeepers, it is really, really pleasing. They know each other well, there is a mutual respect between them.”

So now we have two keepers. Who’s next in?

I thought you might be interested in my thoughts on the Welling game and some of the players involved. Bonne played as a lone striker in the first half and difficult to judge his performance as service to him was limited and he will not play that role when in the first team. Lockyer looked capable particularly on the ground his lack of height may make him more suitable to a 3 at the back system. As he looks a player able to play from the back he may be able to play holding midfield role in front of a back 4. Aneke looks to hold up the ball well because of his strength but his pace and mobility need to improve if he is to play the no.10 role but early days.
I thought Lapslie was outstanding when he came on in the second half looks nailed on for 1st team squad. Morgan played a deeper role in midfield behind Dempsey (usually Morgan plays in front of Dempsey). Morgan was able to play 30-40 yd diagonal passes well but the deeper role requires defensive abilities that are not his strength. The other young players did themselves proud in particular Sarpong-Wiredu and Doughty who could breakthrough in the second half of the season. Odoh and Dempsey may need more time but are promising.
Great news about Amos this should allow Maynard-Brewer to go out on loan and gain valuable experience.

    • Thanks rierti.

Agree on Amos and it also gives LB and SG another on field loan option.
