Darren Pitcher dead at 49.

Dreadful news to wake up to this morning that Darren Pitcher has died at the age of just 49.
Pitcher was a mainstay of the side in the early 90’s and played in the 1992 Back to The Valley game, where he set up Colin Walsh for that famous goal. Born in the east end, he came through our academy and in all he made 204 appearances before moving to Palace.
Like others at Ewood Park on that wonderful FA Cup night in February 1994 when he scored the winner that beat the future Premier League champions, I will always cherish the memories of that night and the part that Darren played in a truly memorable Charlton win.
Such a sad shock and my sincere sympathies to his family and friends. RIP Darren.

Very sad news. I was a big fan of Darren’s and was upset when we signed Bumstead from Chelsea blocking DP.s route into the first team in his best position of defensive midfield. He eventually got his chance as right fullback before getting his correct place in midfield. I felt he was badly handled and deserved better. I feel the same is happening with Dijksteel who was our best U23 midfielder two seasons ago in a side which included Aribo.
I forgot he even started in midfield. Shocking news.
