Shrewsbury Town 0 Charlton Athletic 2

We’ve all done it..

Be on a flight during a Charlton game, just before legally allowable you turn your phone on and watch the signal slowly appear and then with heart in mouth check for the score. I’ve done it a lot and rarely have I punched the air in delight. I did last night.

Well, well, well. How totally unexpected was that. Or wasn’t it. This is Charlton we are talking about after all. One minute they kick you in the nuts, the next lift your hopes higher than a mountain.

Who the hell knows what we are going to get on Saturday, but last night’s result makes the Pompey game huge.

After Saturday’s shocker Bowyer had to make changes and he did, six, and they all came out and proved a point. Bowyer talks togetherness and fight, which is crucial and I love it, but we also have to be tactically aware and inventive, and after three games of not appearing to be, Saturday when we didn’t seem to have a clue, it all came together last night.

I’m happy for those die hard Addicks that witnessed the victory and it sounded a fully deserved win against a team that had only lost three at home all season and have the second best home defensive record in the league.

So, it’s the hope that kills you. I have my oxygen tank, how about you.

Come on you Addicks.

As you know from previous replies on your blog I have consistently said that Magennis is an old fashioned style centre forward who has needed to play in a two up front set up. KR never gave him that opportunity I am frankly amazed that it took LB seven games to do it. You will also remember after the Plymouth game that I expressed my doubts about Ajose and Kaikai. Was I right – I think so.

Kaikai is a waste of space. Ajose a decent impact sub. LB should stick with these two now I agree.

Unexpected victories are always sweet…the team battled hard and kept Shrewsbury from having a shot on goal all match. As an aside, Chris Powell is running the London Marathon for Prostate Cancer UK, can you all pass this story on please? And/or donate via the article below.
