Rodeo

After a week, ten days, that saw me in Boston, Norfolk (Virginia), Miami and Orlando, I could do with sitting still a little, but no, the island-feavered-other-half wants to get away for a few days over half term, so she has booked us a trip to go and see the rodeo.

We are off to San Antonio in Texas tomorrow, a place I have never been, with the main act being my other-half’s seemingly new fascination with bucking broncos and cowboy boots. Our little ‘un’s going to love it with 2,000 pigs and cattle to play with as well as a petting zoo and pony rides.

Dad has plenty to occupy him too. The pig racing took my eye as well as the horse auction and craft beer tap room. Enough for all the family..

There’s plenty of country music as well, although it’s never grabbed me if I’m honest. We have tickets the night Rascal Flatts is playing at the rodeo. Other country luminaries such as Brad Paisley and Alan Jackson are performing this month as well as other artists.

The San Antonio Rodeo started last week and goes until the end of the month.

San Antonio, home of The Alamo, celebrates it’s 300th year in 2018 but we only have 3 full days and I want us get about the city a little bit including exploring the river walk which is lined by 200-year old cypress trees and winds itself through the city.

Howdy cowboy.

If you want some fun at lunch on the Riverwalk, try this spot for something quite unusual.

Also, check the birthplaces of those who perished at The Alamo. Quite surprising.

It’ll be interesting to hear what you think of the rodeo. I went to one many years ago somewhere near Dallas and it was honestly one of the most boring experiences of my life. After ten minutes you realised you were just getting more and more. of the same but being entertained by an agent I felt obliged to stay and look interested, whereas I’d rather have found the beer tent and a different form of entertainment!
