Chris Powell back in the game

On the back of a Kent Live survey showing overwhelming support for Karl Robinson (I’m not sure what the sample was), the last man to have such support, Chris Powell, has been appointed the new manager of Southend United.

Powell played 290 times for the Shrimpers between 1990 and 1996 before moving to Derby County for £750,000.

Powell replaces Phil Brown who left the club earlier this month after almost 5 years in the job. In fact Southend have a good recent history of sticking with their managers which will encourage Powell, who is more of a long term club builder as opposed to an immediate miracle worker.

Powell will be a popular choice at Roots Hall and his first task will be to stop a rot of 7 defeats in 8 games. I wish him all the success in the world, I just hope SCP has a clause in his contract allowing him to leave if a certain club come knocking.

Completely gutted. Thought he was waiting for me, oops, I mean us. Still – managers get sacked so quickly these days ….
