Revelation

Maybe only to Karl. (more)

A very downbeat Robinson at today’s press conference as realization sets in that Duchatelet is not going to splash the cash if he is wanting out and no new owner before the end of January will result in just Mavididi coming in, and possibly still players being sold from under him by the Belgian to line his own pocket.

Robinson looks to have once again been caught out running his mouth off before thinking. Due diligence and known takeover talks go back to early October. Meire sanctioned Mavididi’s return before she left and now that David Joyes, the CFO has joined her, the chances of Robinson getting his three or four players is fanciful to say the least.

Yes, we need bodies, and some medical miracles in the physio’s room, but Robinson needs to get back to basics, re-build his much vaunted claims of team spirit and never say die attitude and coach the players back to form. Doctor Kish summed up expertly the task that now lays ahead of Robinson, who bragged that we’d never drop out of the play-off places a couple of months ago.

Josh Umerah and Brendan Hanlan have returned from loans at Wycombe and Colchester respectively. Both scoring two goals each, but they are not the answer and sadly at the moment nor is Josh Magennis.

Saturday’s game is huge.

To be fair to Robinson I don’t think Guardiola could coach a clean sheet out of a back four containing Sarr/Lennon
I really don’t see those goals on Saturday going in with Pearce and Bauer
He’s done a reasonable job but you can only polish a turd for so long
Don’t see Saturday as massive, think the season has already gone – a normal injury quota would’ve probably seen us challenge strong for too 6 but the gap in squad strength is there for all to see
If takeover discussions have really been ongoing since October then somethings not right, these deals can be done in a matter of weeks with a willing seller (which we have) and willing and able buyer (as opposed to potless chancers)
Time will tell but looks to me like summer rebuild at best with (hopefully) new owner

    • My take is that there has been interested but RD hasn’t had any interest in doing a quick deal especially with his ridiculous price tag. Meire leaving I think will hasten his want to sell.

      We miss Bauer don’t we?

I think Steve is premature in criticising Lennon who apparently played well at Wigan .After such a long absence through injury I did not think Lennon would have recovered enough to be considered for the Gillingham game. I blame Robinson his handling of players coming back from
    injury is questionable.

    • Agree with that, although he always says that he seeks advice from his medical team. Our management of injuries has been shocking for season’s though.

  3. Problem is Managers always have the final say. Players coming back too soon and being overplayed are all a clear symptom of the lack of investment in the squad and a paper thin first team. Stephy Mavididi’s injury through being overplayed was a prime example of this last season and probably the reason Arsenal sent him elsewhere in August. You can’t go straight from Youth team to playing 2 games of 90 mins in league one.

    • He’s played 20 minutes since mid Nov. Watch him start on Saturday….
