Keeps signs

The goalkeeper spot has been a summer priority and it was a surprise that so few names had been mentioned in dispatches. Dillon Phillips has appeared not have grasped the opportunity during pre-season and an experienced ‘keeper became a necessity. Ben Amos was linked with us a few days ago, and signed on a season long loan this morning from Bolton.

I personally would have liked to have seen a permanent signing but there are a whole raft of young or out of favour keepers around and a loan was always more likely. The last negotiations came down to how much we would have to contribute to Amos’ hefty salary that he negotiated for himself when he joined Wanderers from Man U on a free in 2015.

I am unsure as to whether Amos was top of Robinson’s goalkeeping list, but he does bring Championhsip experience playing 49 games there for Bolton plus 16 for Cardiff last season and has a 100 or so appearances all told, about the same as Declan Rudd before he joined us last summer.

Amos fell badly out of favour at Bolton and was going into this season as Phil Parkinson’s 4th choice and they were hastily trying to move him on. We shall see, and I’m not writing off Dillon Phillips just yet.

The 27-year old may play some part of the friendly game at home to Ipswich today.

  1. I’m not convinced about Amos, particularly after reading the reports on him playing at other clubs?

It makes also wonder why the MK Dons keeper, either wasn’t interested, nor signed?

    • The David Martin situation was odd. Well known and apparently rated by KR. He was with the club training but what happened?

Agree Martin, Amos’ resume is not the best. Certainly compared to Rudd or even Martin.
