Good time to play U(s)?
It should be a good time to play Oxford. They suffered late FA Cup heartache at Middlesbrough on Saturday after superbly clawing their way back to 2-2 against Premier League opposition.
3,200 U’s fans shared that heartache on Teeside on Saturday and there will be many less at The Valley tonight. Mind you there won’t be that many Addicks either as The Valley is set to witness another sub 10,000 official attendance.
We haven’t lost to Oxford in 15 league games going back to 1987. In fact you can throw in another handful of unbeaten cup games although they did beat us in a League Cup game on penalties in 2002 at The Valley.
One would think Michael Appleton’s team will be rattled and still hurting after Saturday and like us sit in mid table with the play-off’s moving further away from view although they do have an extra game in hand to play catch up. They are also one of the form sides in the division and their away results have been good. Plus they are only a game away from Wembley in the much criticized Checkertrade Trophy.
The often maligned Appleton has done well at Oxford finally finding his feet. After swearing not to walk away from Portsmouth, he did and went to Blackpool and walked out on them as well ending up at Blackburn, where he was sacked after 67 days. A year later Oxford reignited his managerial career still only a few years old. Promotion and a Wembley appearance followed last season.

Whatever 3 points is essential and I expect Robinson to twist again tonight with his squad. I expect Byrne, Mavididi and Teixeira to start.

I think the playoffs are beyond us now,but there are some reasons to be cheerful,looking into the future I think the Championship would be a tough call for us next year,just look at what Wigan achieved last year,compared to this year,I think Robinson is the right man,he does have a knack of attracting “better”players to the club,I would be content to go another season at this level,who knows perhaps Roly might get disheartened and go,but could it be a case of better the devil you know?he does pay the bills.

I would literally rather have the Devil as Owner than Roland Duchatalet…. As for paying the bills, we all know by now that any monies spent by Roland are in the form of loans charged at interest.

Tex – the devil would be a better owner than Duchatalet …. at least things would get lively at the Valley rather than the dross we’ve witnessed of late – and even better, he could take on a2c as his right hand man!
